A nostalgic trip through Halo 2’s legacy of Multiplayer awesomeness.

With Halo 2’s Xbox LIVE matchmaking at an end, Waypoint wanted to take an opportunity to look at some of our favorite Multiplayer maps and experiences from the game.

Up this time around is Sanctuary—a stony plot of land on the surface of Delta Halo. The unique, crumbling architecture of Sanctuary reflected the abandoned, ancient structures–ancient even by Forerunner standards–seen in Halo 2’s campaign and begged the question: were these even Forerunner structures, or did they predate even that civilization? In some ways, they look preserved, even intentionally placed—as if a testament to an even more ancient civilization.

Released in 2005, as downloadable content, Sanctuary is still considered a favorite by many fans for its versatility with multiple gametypes, it’s neatly organized symmetry, and its beautiful, pristine aesthetics.
