Everyone since Halo CE has wanted to fly pelicans, and it is time 343 acknowledges this. Halo also needs 50 vs 50 war zone. If games like Apex, pubg, daycareNite can do this halo should lead the way. Below are some ideas for implementations of Pelican and Phantom in game. They should also incorporate vehicles from halo wars 2 like the wolverine to counter theses carriers (Another topic to discuss).

Pelican
  • Player drivable
  • Missiles Primary weapon (Driver controlled)
  • Rear turret
  • 6-8 player passengers
  • Should allow player spawning
  • Pick up vehicles like in game (Tanks, warthogs, pair of mongooses)
  • Spawns with vehicles attached (Warzone Req)
  • Weapon Pod Drop (Warzone Req)
  • Light and Medium Weapon (ARs, Brs, DMRs) spawns in passenger area (Next to cockpit door, or above seats)
Phantom
  • Player drivable
  • Plasma Canon Primary weapon (Passenger Controlled)
  • 2 side turrets.
  • 5-6 player passengers
  • Should allow player spawning
  • Gravity lift for boarding
  • Pick up vehicles like in game (Tanks, warthogs, pair of mongooses)
  • Spawns with vehicles attached(Warzone Req)
  • Weapon Pod Drop (Warzone Req)
  • Light and Medium Weapon (Carbine, Plasma Rifle) spawns in passenger area (Next to cockpit door, or near exiting doors)
Spirit (Optional)
  • Player drivable
  • Plasma Canon Primary weapon (Passenger Controlled)
  • 6-12 player passengers
  • Should allow player spawning
The issue with this (and probably why 343/bungie never did this in multiplayer) is that all someone has to do is whip out a laser and get an easy killionaire. I’d much rather that medal remain special than be able to fly very large dropships.

Unfriggenbelivable! Oooooooooohhhhhh! Mom, MOM! Look! I’m good at hAlO. (More squeaker noises)

Honestly StuffRock I use to be in the same boat as you during the first two years of Halo 5. The more I’ve thought about this the more I realize that I’m limiting the sandbox for assuming the game won’t be balanced. If these vehicles carry so many people die so quickly, there’ll be a patch to buff them or a patch to nerf the weapons that destroy them. Like the spartan lasers. Post launch balance will occur like they’ve tried with Warzone and I believe that 343i has learned from players’ creative exploits in Warzone enough for me to say that they can change the health bar on a vehicle like the phantom or pelican.

As for the OP; make a UNSC combat and transport Pelican. Then set the phantom with extra guns (like in h4) to be the combat counter part whilst giving the Spirit the transport equivalent to the transport pelican.

That's not a problem. You're just use to smaller kill medals. This would normalize the kill streak at a higher value.

It has nothing to do with how quickly they die, it’s the fact that they will die eventually and render high kill streak medals meaningless.

Except nobody wants the high multikill and kill streak medals to be normalized. Killionaires and unfrigs should be something to be proud of and brag about, not “oh I just pulled out a laser and finished off a damaged spirit.” That completely makes those medals meaningless.

“Should high value multikill and kill streak medals be normalized?”

Is time made out of lines?
By the time you get to a player count that would actually support the use of a Pelican/Phantom/Spirit you would end up with a Halo game that is Halo in name only. Now that is fine for a spin-off, but a mainline Halo title comes with certain expectations.

Large scale combined arms gameplay is just not what mainline Halo titles are built for, they are entirely separate sub-genres with vastly different needs. I would love to play a Battlefield esque Halo game, but I don't want that to come at the expense or the more intimate small scale Halo titles I already enjoy.

And in case anyone is wondering, no, we can't "do both" in a single game. That would be the same as asking 343(or any dev for that matter) to produce two entire games with the time and resources as they would normally get for one. It just isn't feasible. No one game has to be all things to all people.

Bringing back the Falcon with usable passenger seats makes far more sense at scale of mainline Halo titles.

TL;DR Pelican too big.
In a way this would be cool but it would be unbalanced. Maybe if you shot it down you’d get one kill and everyone in it just falls to the ground. Now that could make for some cool kills with a sniper.
Only if it was a transport vehicle with a turret on the back of the Peli and 2 turrets on the side of the Phantom. Make it strong enough to were it would take a lot of firepower to bring it down but also slow it down as it's taking damage. The map would have to be like some of the ones on Reach.
Could make it so when AI dropships come you can find a way up onto the ship while it's open and kill the pilot and take it. That way the massive multikill medal isn't a frequent occurrence, is set to specific locations on the map and is dependent on the faction being spawned (could add militia as an opposing faction in warzone to have pelicans). If you don't kill the pilot in time because enemy players have slown you down then you get kicked out the ship. The only other place they could appear is custom games and forge, maybe action sack.
You would need a 50vs50 mode to get value out of a 9-man vehicle. With those numbers even damage scaling will still make them very fragile against 50. There is really only 3 ways to truly realize flying those vehicles
- a massive 100man mode
- mmo or destiny style
- a unit command feature in campaign
None would fit in a mainline Halo game without sacrificing the rest of the game.
I Agree with you I want Pelican that can shoot and I want Phantoms that can shoot in Warzone and also in Forge!!😃
Somebody said that they flew a Pelican in warzone; nobody believe him.. there is no Pelican right ?
OP this is a no brainer. It's a natural fit for the sandbox, utilizing property that the franchise already has designed and more importantly one that the player base has been calling for for decades.

To the commenters saying it would be unfair/unbalanced etc.: Simply buff the shields of the Pelican. If the pelican receives enough damage it doesn't simply explode killing all the passengers, instead it nosedives to the ground crashing on impact. During the freefall players have the ability to eject and perhaps any players still in the vehicle on impact will die. I'm just spitballing here but there's a million ways to balance this out.

To the commenters saying it's not 'Halo': I'm sorry to be blunt - but get your head out of the sand. The gameplay needs to grow and this is the natural way to do it. Simply releasing the same 4 vs. 4 arena game time after time is just boring and stale. No it will not take away resources from regular matchmaking. 343 is a massive company with a ridiculous amount of resources. There is no reason why they can't nail the classic mujltiplayer and push the limits as well.

that might work actually it'll kinda be like a elephant sorta in the sky and will definitely be fun to forge with
Unless the maps are massive I just don't see large deployment vehicles like the Pelican being in multiplayer. Definitely could be used in custom games though.

Pilot is the only kill count.
They could be used in forge if nothing else, not like balance matters there, it could even help in traversing any forge world equivalent.
So many unexpected negative heart crushing responses to a dream request since the days of halo 2... and for some halo 1.
What do you mean no? Last time I checked.... phantoms and spirits dont go out easy with a spartan laser. Further more... Those vehicles are extremely fast if you werent aware. Its not so much that they will go down and multikills awarded. Isnt that already a thing btw in any multi crew vehicle? warthogs and falcons had 3 people.... Didnt make the triple kill any less special. It is difficult to destroy a vehicle and its passengers unless they all kind of suck... in which case you probably would have gotten a triple kill anyways.

Moving back to dropships... Im not sure about you... every time i play invasion on spire or btb on sandtrap I always feel like a drop ship would certainly help ALOT with increasing the games pace and even give more options for strategy.

You can make big maps and small maps... its not like making two different games. You already have the engine... and the physics for the dropships are ALREADY programmed in campagin... its just a matter of making it accesible to the player with respect to the vehicle itself. The only extra thing is the larger map... which if you ask me is not nearly an entire game. The sanbox elements are present, the input and gameplay are present.... its just a matter of making scenery and planning that particular map.

BUT lets say ok... fine no base maps with the dropships... but still ... why not in forge thou?
There is NO reason why that shouldnt be allowed. Ill wait for a rebuttal... but I dont expect there is one.
Seems like everyone around here already forgot about the H4 mission where you consistently have to fly and do combat as a pelican pilot. And especially with 4 people that thing turned into a flying murder jet, which I personally enjoyed a lot.

For MP these things will require balancing of course, but as saifa117 above me already said: the bare necessities for implementation have probably been present since Reach. I'd love to see them in custom games at the very least.

Especially with a new engine coming up, I think it's high time that campaign assets are not to be locked to campaign anymore. Best example is the AA Wraith finally being introduced in H5G MP, while being present since Halo 3. Open up the possibilities, do not limit the community's creativity. The more versatile Halo Infinite will become as a platform, the longer it will engage and challenge players to create awesome stuff for it.
Cool idea but those are too big and easy of a target. And we're not even sure if Warzone will be in Halo Infinite. It was a good concept but it gets old really fast so I wouldn't mind it returning but I won't miss it if it doesn't.
