Is Halo 1 and 2 on PC any good?

OP RenegadeHeart98

I can't help but notice that many people have hated on the pc versions of halo 1 and 2 but am still curious to buy it for my halo collection even though I already have halo 1 and 2 on the original xbox and the mcc. Is it worth it? and if not, why all the hate towards it?
There are very large and active communities for CE and H2 on the PC. The mods they have right now basically make it the best way to experience classic Halo gameplay at the moment. I implore you to check out these videos:

IMO the only servers on Halo Custom Edition worth playing on are stunt_man’s GMYF public servers and his GMYF test servers because they are the only servers that try to emulate the original Xbox Halo 1 experience as close as possible.

If you’re interested in playing Halo Custom Edition on stunt_man’s GMYF servers then I highly recommend for you to join the Halo 1 Hub discord so you can find some people to play with. The Halo 1 Hub discord is the discord that we use to organize games for the GMYF servers. We also use the Halo 1 Hub discord to organize games for XLAN and MCC. Here’s an invite link to the Halo 1 Hub discord.
Here’s a link to the GMYF server list.
Here’s a link to a teambeyond post about Halo 2V Project Cartographer.

Here are the links that you posted.

There's Halo Custom Edition which has an active modding community from what I heard and there's Halo 2 Project Cartographer which allows you to play H2 PC online without the GFWL and that's all I know of.

Oh yeah! You can download Halo 2 PC for free included with Project Cartographer installer.

This exactly. No matter the opinions out there, PC versions are fantastic to play on. If I didn’t have a Mac, I would 110% be playing on PC.
Any good? It's great! Halo: Custom Edition is still alive with hundreds playing. Halo 2 has been revived thanks to Project Cartographer. Then there's ElDewrito (Halo 3 PC) with it's anticipating 0.6 update coming soon! It's great to be a PC Halo fan right now.

I agree with you 100% the halo online update coming soon will make it easier for machinima makers to use the forge and hidden forge items like the "spinning wheel of doom" (zanzibar's giant wheel), doors, gates, roadblocks, and buttons! its hella cool and ima use it for my new machinima!

Opinions are like rear ends. Everyone has one and they all stink.

Halo CE and Halo 2 on PC were both great in their own ways. I think they're worth picking up and playing though the only way to play multiplayer is via LAN party since the online side of things have been shut down for a long time now. Halo 2 also has its own set of achievements too as long as you're signed into your Xbox account while playing Campaign
