would you like different rank for playable elites?

Make Your Selection:

So just thinking that if the playable elites will return, would you like to have differently named ranks for the (possible) playable elites?

This could mean that you still rank up both from all the matches or that they could have separate progression systems. Mostly it could be just that you would have separate rank names for the elites.

And if you would like to see elite specific ranks then what could they be? Would they be like the usual elite rank as in Halo: Reach (customization only names in case of Reach but now a separate rank name when leveling up) such as minor, major, ultra, zealot etc etc... or something like grunt minor, grunt major, jackal minor, elite minor etc etc... or something entirely else? (Tthe ranks in examples obviously not full lists).
Maybe a mix of both halo Reach and 3? You can rank up to get new armour but also miss and match different pieces together. Perhaps even have some unique ones unlockable via achievements.
It would be pretty neat to gain rank by the Elite ranks instead of SR 134 or what ever number your on.

That seems to be more about armor unlocking/customization points than about elite ranks.

So just asking whether you would like a separate rank "tree" for elites which could consist of ranks such as minor, major, ultra, zealot etc etc... and if so would the elite rank "tree" rank up simultaneously (much like you unlocked different playable elite in Halo: Reach with certain ranks such as ultra on warrant officer and zealot on captain but this time it could be unlocking the rank for your elite character) with the usual UNSC rank or should it be ranked up separately, perhaps with certain gamemodes or playing as an elite in multiplayer?

So does that mean you could rather have elite ranks only or that there could be UNSC ranks with a separate elite ranks? Just to be clear.

Also, if you preferred the 2 separate ranks then do you think it would be better to unlock them separately (like gaining elite ranks with playing certaing gamemodes, playing as an elite in multiplayer etc etc..) or that rank ups would happen simultaneously meaning that you could get something like rank of zealot when the usual rank reaches captain (or something similar) which could mean the ranks could be more for visual purposes in that case.

Basically I would like it similar to Reach in the sense that you rank up from Minor to Major to Ultra etc... and yes they would be simultaneous with UNSC rank in order to keep things simple.
The thing is though that while its fun to fantasise about all these ways 343 could implement a Sangheili ranking system we need to keep things realistic. 343 seems to be more focused on expanding Spartan armour variants.
This would also depend in which direction Halo 6 goes gameplay wise. If Spartan Abilities are retained (which I believe they will) then I don't see Elites making it in typical matchmaking; though they could be reserved for special game modes.
I would be happy to get playable elites again.

Again, not the point even though it relates to what the topic is about.

The topic is about would you like to see a separate rank "tree" with elite ranks from the UNSC ranks and if you would then would you prefer the ranks to be separately or simultaneously leveled up?

You know I hadn't really thought about it that way but I think that I would rather you have to play each alien race an gain ranks only using that species.
With Arbiter as the highest rank...
With Arbiter as the highest rank...
I assume that is yes to the idea? Or do you mean it could be required to be the highest rank for you to support the idea?

And it could be because existing elite ranks are more limited than existing UNSC ranks. Also didnt mention the rank "Arbiter" because i didnt do anykind of full list at any point in this topic.

Also, would you like the elite ranks to be separately or simultaneously ranked with the usual ranks?

Oh, I'm completely with the idea I just wanted to know if Arbiter was a rank.

Well, it is a rank but i wouldnt say that it is the highest. Its more of a special rank.

Anyway, would you prefer the elite ranks to be ranked only when example playing as an elite or in certain gamemodes or that the rank could increase simultaneously with the usual ranks like you become ultra when your level reaches warrant officer or that you become zealot when you reach captain rank, and whatever the SR equivalent could be for those.

The second option sounds right to me.

Yes.
This reminds me of the ranking system in Planetside 2, which depended on your faction. I quite like the personal touch it provides.

If it's set during the main Human-Covenant War I'd want to see the original ranks:
Minor, Major, Ultra, ZealotOf course, you'd have to fit in the specialist ranks:
Stealth, Spec Ops, Spec Ops Officer, Ranger, Honour Guard, CouncillorAnd considering the term 'Zealot' covers a rather broad range of Elites, you can sub-divide it:
Field Master, Spec Ops Commander, Shipmaster, Fleet Master, Supreme Commander, etc.

If it were set after the main war, during or after Jul 'Mdama's time, then I'd go with the Covenant Remnant ranks:
Storm, Commander, Warrior, ZealotAlternatively, you could use the ranks from Halo Reach, but that's a little different. As someone who considers Bungie's original graphic style (not 343i's, not Blur's, not SaberInteractive's, not CertainAffinity's) as canon (what I visualise when reading the novels, etc.), in my head-canon I count the armour variants seen in Halo Reach as the armour that was meant to be used for the Battle of Earth but blown up along with the Unyielding Hierophant. If there was a reason for it, I'd be happy with those ranks too:
Minor, Officer, Field Marshall, Zealot, General...but I'd prefer the originals.

I would prefer the original ranking system too. Well, the one that was better known in Halo 2 which expanded the original elite ranking system. But for sure it would make sense to have a ranking system based on the time the game is set on. The Halo 2 system could just be better known to the long time Halo fans.

And you mentioned factions but im just not sure how would that work in Halo ranking system. Perhaps if its not restrictive type of system but instead one that allows easy switches between factions to allow leveling of both UNSC (or, ugh, SR) ranks and elite ranks easily and in order you would prefer to. Basically you could change what you level by changing the playable character preference. So based on that i assume you would prefer separate ranks.
Didn’t they already do that in Halo Reach? It wasn’t a perfect system I’ll give you that, but it was more or less a working system.

Not really, it was a system where you unlock different elite "skins" with some of the elite rank names, think of that like recruit armor from H4 would be comparable to minor from Halo: Reach. this topic is about a full on ranking system.

And surely Halo: Reach has a working system but im not getting more into that since its not the topic.
I think it’d be cool to have some more options for playing as elites

Well, i guess this could be more of an addition when playing as elites if the ranks could be unlocked separately.

But just to be clear, does that mean you are for the elite ranks?

Also if you are all for elite ranks then should those be leveled separately or simultaneously with the usual ranks?
I think there should be 2 different types of Elite armour:

Rank Armour:
As you play as an elite (And only as an elite) you earn experience for it. Each armour type is split into classes, which are in turn split into ranks. So you earn XP, and earn elite ranks. When you have a certain number of ranks (say 5 for ease of example, but I think it should be more, and perhaps should vary), you finish the class. Finishing each class in an armour type will unlock customisable options for that specific armour type (Just like in Halo: Reach with the helmets). When you finish all the classes, you earn the next armour type and can work towards ranks for that. I must stress that ranks should be very hard to earn; you have to play for a considerable amount of time and skill feats such as sprees massively increase the amount of elite XP you would earn for that match. Elite XP is separate to Spartan XP.

Achievement Armour:
ON TOP OF the rank armour there should be achievement armour that is earned for completing specific challenges (like in halo 3).

All armour types should be split into at least 6 parts (eg. head, chest, shoulders, arms, legs, utility equipment). All pieces should be mix and match able with all other pieces and all attachments for all pieces should also be mix and match able. All earned armour should be progressively harder to get - one could progress through the elite minor type relatively quickly (But still must be hard and take a while) while moving through the elite ultra type would be extremely difficult. Hopefully rewarding skill would prevent this from turning into a grind, but I am not a game designer, there must be ways to avoid the grind once the system is in place.
