Halo: Reach Up Armor Pieces for Helmets?

OP The Squigz

I loved the different modules, data links, and lights that could be added to helmets in Reach, but the extra armor pieces on some don’t make sense to me. Are they extra armor? Example: Jorge’s helmet has the UA (Up Armor) attachment on top of the visor/rim/bill. Is it really extra armor or is it a flip down module? Are they intended to be used as extra protection for head butting?
I think it would be for head butting or using your noggin for any sort of offense. Although, I’m very curious what purpose a flip down armor piece would have, if that was indeed what it was designed to be. I don’t have a confirmed answer though.

Or throw both out the window and, Bungie being Bungie, maybe one guy thought it would be funny to name it “Up Armor” because it’s armor that’s there when you look up 🤔
Just adds more protection to the helmet, something Kat should've put on the back of her helmet...
