So we've got ships, we've got Spartans, we've got fleets...you know, all of these vessels and soldiers need some armorment. Misriah can't do it all themselves you know! Lets see what you've got!

One I've been working on for a while now...

Weapon Designation: M305 Multi-Purpose Individual Launcher
Role: Squad-level indirect fire, anti-armor, support utility (depending on ammunition used)
Based On/Modified From: No specific, but similar in idea and usage to individual grenade launchers of the 21st century and the Sticky Detonator
Manufacturer: Glorious Victory Armories, Colony Pacifica
Description: Literally nothing more than a tube with a hand grip, the M305 is simple, rugged, and made to take nearly any kind of ordinance produced in the 40-60mm range. Explosive shells are most common, though gas, incendiary, flechette, HESH, smoke, flashbang and even more exotic warheads like hardlight or sonic charges exist.
Notes: Not commonly found among UNSC personeel (the Sticky Det and M319 Individual Grenade Launcher have both yet to be surpassed). A very common sight among Pacifica's planetary militia and units stationed there however, where its small size and light weight, ease of use in MOUT (Military Operations on Urban Terrain), and the avalability of a multitude of specialty ammunition makes it a popular choice

If I had to create a weapon, I'd envision a replacement for the standard suite of conventional-ammunition firing rifles utilized by UNSC forces. The 7.62mm FMJ-AP ammunition seems archaic by the standards of what we would expect from the 26th century, unless there's some trick to it that hasn't been revealed yet, and we know it's tiresomely ineffective against shielding.

What the UNSC requires is a way to use the gauss technology that they've incorporated into portable Anti-Armor and ship based weaponry which has proven so effective against shielding into a standard-issue front-line rifle. As we know, the principle with energy shielding is that a large, widespread blast is more effectively absorbed and neutered, whilst a massive amount of kinetic force delivered to a small region (like a shot from a MAC to a Covenant CCS class' shields) is going to be able to effectively overload them.

And we do know that it is with this in mind that the new M20 Submachine Gun was put into service, an M7 re-chambered for a unique HVAP (High-Velocity Armor Piercing) round which actually uses the same principles as modern tank Armor Piercing ammunition, or the rounds fired by the SRS-99. Under US designation, a HVAP round is a round consistent of two components within the actual bullet - a large, soft metal casing and a smaller, ultra-dense penetrating spike known as a SABOT. This round is designed so that the larger case either shatters on contact with or breaks away before striking the target, ultimately dumping the momentum of the entire larger round into a small, super-dense penetrator. This results in a massive amount of kinetic energy being delivered to a much smaller area, drastically increasing the ability of the round to go through body armor or deplete shielding.

However, we know that this effect can be recreated by the UNSC using gauss technology without the need for specialized ammunition. Theoretically, all you'd need is a dense, solid spike which could be propelled at high speed by a series of magnetic could like in a MAC or Gauss Cannon to deliver massive kinetic energy onto a small target area. Nothing compared to what the weapon mounted on an anti-armour Hog, but more than enough to better deal with armored troops. If this technology could be incorporated into a standard rifle, I feel as if UNSC troops would be much more effective at dealing with both heavily armored and heavily shielded hostile targets. Variations in ammunition type velocity could be used to adjust the weapon's effectiveness against less armored targets.

Just a thought. Couldn't think of a specific weapon.
well my guns would be the guns beyond this Link but using smaller versions of M6D Rounds to tackle the fact that they are very old long barrel Revolvers

Basically a gauss rifle, or a railgun carbine like the ARC-920 that fires like an automatic rifle.

Consider this constructive criticism.. I think you got confused with the difference between a discarding sabot and a hard-core, of which the 5x23mm CLT (CaseLess Telescoped?) falls under the latter. Their functions may be similar (penetrating armor) but their exact means of penetrating vary differently. And so, if you know anything about bullets, you would know that submachine guns chambered with High Velocity Armor Piercing ammunition would likely be using Hardened Jackets, not to mention that barrel wear is going to be a very, very big issue in any SMG, plus you still need to account for another issue at hand: muzzle blast. barrel length/width, barrel wear, etc. I'd also like to see the justification for a sabot retaining enough mass to be beneficial (superior ballistics!) over a hardened jacket, while accounting for that cartridge size and the even smaller diameter of the projectile itself. Anyhow, youre on the right track, but on the wrong train.

Heck, lets look at the weight.

1.3kg (empty) - Convenientaly the same weight of the M7
2.8kg (loaded) - Considering that they fire the same exact ammunition - M443 Caseless Ball... wait a minute, that doesn't make sense. How the hell is the M443 Caseless Ball new if its been used for at least 100 years?

So we've got ships, we've got Spartans, we've got fleets...you know, all of these vessels and soldiers need some armorment. Misriah can't do it all themselves you know! Lets see what you've got!

Okay, I'll bite. Anyone remember those concept art pieces of the Master Chief holding this wicked rifle - well I'll use that as the base.

Weapon Designation: XAM801 (Augmented) Squad Assault System
Role: Anti-material rifle
Based on: Advanced Weapons System Program
Manufacturer: Grim Solutions

Description-
Ammunition type: 5.6mm Staballoy Armor-Piercing
Rate of Fire: 650 RPM
Magazine Capacity: (High-capacity detachable Box Magazine) 48
Muzzle Velocity: ~1530m/s
Firing Mode: Semi-automatic, Automatic
Notes: In response to the increasingly prevalent appearances of Forerunner Warmachines and heavily armored Jiralhanae warriors on distant worlds, Grim Solutions has been working tirelessly on an advanced weapon system that would exploit the enhanced and power-assisted physiology of a Forward Deployed Operator - and neutralize targets in the most efficient way possible. Through the integration of a reciprocating barrel, sophisticated recoil dampening system, and auto-processing compensators, the XAM801's can accurately disable everything from a person to armored vehicles from as far as two kilometers away, even while operating in less then optimal environmental conditions.
Weapon Designation: SOMR-59b

Role: Special Operations Marksman Rifle

Based on; DMR, BR,

Manufacturer; Vulcan Defense Solutions

Ammunition; .310mm Hybrid caseless/ 30mm S.K.A.D grenades

RoF; 800 rounds / 105 rounds

Magazine Capacity; 45 round detachable box/ 6 round magazine.

Muzzle velocity; 1000 m/s

Fire mode; 2 round burst/ single shot

Development; Drawing from testimonials from Covenant War veterans, currently serving personal and advancements from reversed engineered technology with the aim of creating a powerful rifle integrated with new emerging technologies for increased leathality the SOMR was the answer.

The DMR and BR bullpup design were used as templates for this new rifle. In an effort to reduce weight yet maintain a ranged ability, a floating barrel was chosen. The .310 round was selected for its stopping power against brutes and elites, this was augmented by a electromagnetic/ hardlight incendiary warhead to which was designed to address stronger energy shielding faced post New Pheonix whist yielding a greater chance of enemy combatant fatality upon penetration.

To address the threats of heavily armoured enemy combatants ( Hunters/Knights) the 30mm S.K.A.D launcher was installed underslung. The Smart.Kinetic.Armour.Defeating round (S.K.A.D) was created which uses a semi active tracking nanotechnology to guide the round to target, while a SABOT/ Self forging plasma core warhead defeats the armour, using that same compramised section to concave and expand inward towards the target. The plasma core is set to activate to the chemical reaction of the titanium tip of the warhead and enemy armour to creates a violent reaction, thus explosion occurring underneath and within the hostile for maximum damage. An airburst proximity fuse was also incorporated into the design for use against clustered soft targets.

Also incorporated into the rifles' design is an automatic suppression system allowing the user to switch between clandestine actions to ranged combat with the push of a button. A variable holographic sighting system with a x10 magnification allows for ranged and CQB actions. A digital ammo counter, compass, laser designator/painter, attachment adaptor and energy bayonet projector were also incorporated into the design.

The weapon's impressive functionality and leathality is only offset by its cost thus resulting in it mainly being employed by Teir 1+ Special Operations Spartan and ODST Fireteams.

Notes; Admiral Osman placed and order to be delivered to the prowler [***REDACTED***]. No further information provided.

A Plasma Rifle.
Weapon designation: Type-53 Directed Energy Rifle
Role: Supression, Assault
Based on: Plasma Rifle
Manufacturer: ONI Section 3
Notes: ONI wanted to make an improved version of the Covenant's Plasma rifle, so they started to experiment and managed to make a plasma rifle that fires explosive projectiles(similar to the ones on an ultra ghost), but due to the high amounts of radiation from the weapon ONI had to abandon the weapon project.
Weapon name: Strife
Weapon Designation: T3 - Energy Weapon
Role: CloseQuarters combat, Anti-Infantry, Anti-Vehicle
Based On/Modified From: T1 - Energy Weapon/Sword & T2 - Energy Weapon/Hammer
Manufacturer: Odin Zy Lhar (Parsec Armory) -> Non-Canon
Notes: This type of weapon is specifically for high commanding officers in the field.
There is no set design for this type of weapon, therefore can be customization to an extent of the wielders liking.
Odin's weapon is equivalent in shape and size of a Medieval-Human "Battleaxe"
In fact on one side of his weapon it is an "Energy-Battleaxe" & on the other side there's a blade that looks like the "Short-Sword" flipped/doubled.
The battleaxe side is able to clean-slice an object as think as a "Falcon" canopy. Can also melt through any armor plating.
The shortsword side is able to shoot a spear-like plasma blast when aimed at a specific target.
The weapon is also adjustable for both speed & distance. Allowing the wielder to adjust and make quick movements as pleased.

Misriah can't do it all you know
Well, then, perhaps one should attempt to lessen their logistical load?

Weapon Designation: X-MA6 (production model designation: MA6A) Assault Rifle.
Role: Standard-issue infantry weapon for UNSC Army, Navy/Marine, and SPARTAN forces.
Based On/Modified From: MA5 Individual Combat Weapon System series. Also takes design hints from the M395 Designated Marksman Rifle.
Manufacturer: Misriah Armory

  • Chambered in 7.62x51mm.
  • Forty-eight round magazine, able to fit AP, SAP, hollow-point, or kinetic bolt rounds.
  • Able to swap firing modes (single-shot, burst fire, or full auto).
  • Side-barrel-mounted plasma pistol discharger can be used to take down shields or temporarily immobilize conventional vehicles.
  • Larger vehicles, along with those of Forerunner-make, are obviously resistant or otherwise immune to this.
  • Under-barrel-mounted grenade launcher can be used for anti-materiel weaponry.
  • Equipped with variable scope and side-mounted energy bayonet.
Designed as a replacement for the MA5 series of rifles, and to reduce potential logistical problems, the MA6A is intended to be implemented as the UNSC's new standard issue infantry weapon. With a greatly extended effective range, this rifle also is intended to replace the M395 DMR and BR85 HBSR in their original roles, in order to streamline UNSC logistics.
META: Inspiration for this?
Quote:
I mean, in the current situation following H5G, would it not be wise to modify some of your infantry weapon systems so that quite a lot of stuff could possibly be interchangeable with each other? Instead of having three different mainstay infantry weapons, of which one cannot even take the same ammo as the others, have one weapon that does all three tasks equally?
Quote:
It's also a boon that, due to the ubiquitous nature of 7.62x51mm ammunition within the UEG/UNSC, the weapon system won't need a lot of retooling so that the baseline UNSC serviceman/servicewoman can use it effectively.
As for that underbarrel grenade launcher... did you know that nowadays we have cool stuff like this? I mean, the Hydra MLRS is cool and all (even if I can't use it worth [REDACTED])... but instead of having one single weapon (even if it is a six-barrel grenade launcher) assigned to a single soldier in a fireteam, the weapon's capabilities are instead dispersed throughout the entire group, with each soldier being equipped with at least one of these homing rockets and possessing the means to fire them. One could very easily turn a chokepoint ambush into a massacre, with non-heavy enemy forces (aka anything that's not a damn tank) being blasted apart from multiple angles of attack.

...I have more ideas, if you wish to see them.

EDIT: REQ details.
  • REQ level 7 (DMR is bumped down to REQ 5)
  • Three different fire rates: full automatic, three-shot burst, or single-shot (when fully zoomed in)
  • Normally has standard BR scope, but can be swapped out for others
  • Same selection of modifications as the other loadout weapons
XMA6 Assault Rifle: New UNSC infantry weapon designed to replace existing standard-issue armaments and streamline logistics for ground forces. Combines the capabilities of the MA6D, BR85, and M395 DMR into a single weapon with little-to-no loss in effectiveness.
By the Forerunners yes I'd love to see more. (Totally isn't planning on stealing these for his fanfiction)
No but seriously though this works wonders. I doubt the UNSC can keep using the MA5 run forever.

That sufficient?
And now from one of my own OC's personal 'homebrew' weapons 'research and development' department...

Weapon Designation: SRS-M100-Special Implementation Rifle. Referred to as 'Jeb'.
Role: Long Range Murdering of Tanks, Dropships, and Other Assorted Enemy Assets
Based On: M99 Stanchion / Modified From: The discarded barrel assembly of a M41 SPNKR reload pack and a homebrew trigger assembly
Manufacturer: SPARTAN-IV Jeremy Martinez, Apex Four, Sergeant
Now, this is going to be a tad bit over the top.

  • Homebrew bolt-action coilgun sniper rifle, powered by the built-in reactor of MJOLNIR GEN2 (though SSgt. Martinez is wont to sometimes haul around a second reactor to run the weapon system so as not to tax his own armor's power source).
  • Chambered in 37mm.
  • Standard round is a solid-core shell, though an APTDHE (armor-piercing time-delayed high-explosive) variant is known to exist. It's what Jeremy pulls out when he wants to delete Phantoms and (attempt to) cripple Scarabs from long range.
  • Equipped with variable scope, good up to 34x zoom.
  • Under-barrel mounted tripod to presumably alleviate recoil.
  • Mark II version has Forerunner-derived recoil mitigation technology built in.
Weapon Designation: M91 Close Quarters Engagement Weapon System (also known as the Strategic Shotgun)
Role: Chunky salsa maker
Based On: M90 Close Assault Weapon System
Manufacturer: SPARTAN-IV Jeremy Martinez, Apex Four, Staff Sergeant

  • Semi-automatic drum-fed single-barrel shotgun.
  • Chambered in 2 gauge.
  • Ten round magazine.
  • Able to load Semi-Armor Piercing, Armor Piercing (oh God), solid core and kinetic bolt-slugs (this gun be good)...
  • As well as birdshot, buckshot (is there even a difference here), blamite (how do you enjoy your needler crystals?), incendiary rounds (pure hellfire coursing out of this gun here)...
  • And armor-piercing timed-delay high-explosive (wut) slugs.
  • Advanced recoil mitigation technology built into the weapon.
  • Yes, it has an energy bayonet... but at this point, it's just for show.
  • Variable scope attached (why would you even), able to provide up to 15x zoom (why?!?).
Weapon Designation: SRS-M101-Experimental Implementation Cannon (eXIC).
Role: "I don't really care any more."
Based On: A crazy idea for a man-portable MAC / Modified From: The 120mm barrel of a M850 Grizzly.
Manufacturer: Take a guess.

  • Single-shot homebrew coilgun sniper rifle, powered by the built-in reactor of MJOLNIR GEN2, supplemented by two salvaged Forerunner Aggressor Sentinel power cores.
  • Chambered in 10cm.
  • Loaded with a single APTDHE shell.
  • Presumably can use other ammo types, examples being solid-core, AP, and HEAT shells. Presumably.
  • Advanced recoil mitigation technology built into the weapon.
  • Smart-link capable. No standard scope or iron sights.
  • Only fired once.
Special Implementation Rifle...SIR.
Hehehehehehe.
"SIR! YES SIR!"

Got another of my own to add that just recently came to me recently whilst at my local gun range

I know this thread is a bit old but here's one for you.

Weapon Designation: XM395-G
Role: High Power Marksman Rifle
Based On/Modified From: M395 DMR
Manufacturer: Archurian Defense Solutions
Notes: The 395-G overhauls the internals of the base platform. Exchanging the gas operation system and black powder cartridges for a magnetic rail system, this weapon can pierce shields with a single shot. However the rate of fire is significantly slower, the bolt has been moved to the right side and is now the only way to feed the modified rounds into the chamber. Former Spartan-III Andrew-G199, founder of ADS, remarks that the 395-G is highly effective against both Covenant energy shields and armor. Field tests are limited to Spartan operators due to the sheer weight of the weapon. Test results prove promising for a full contract with the UNSC for the Spartan Branch.

I know this thread is a bit old but here's one for you.

Weapon Designation: XM395-G
Role: High Power Marksman Rifle
Based On/Modified From: M395 DMR
Manufacturer: Archurian Defense Solutions
Notes: The 395-G overhauls the internals of the base platform. It's a mini-Stanchion. Nice.

...I wonder if Spartan J. Martinez would have been a pseudo-employee of ADS in some other timeline. (Also, I wonder what would Andrew-G199's reaction be in regards to the proposed eXIC, if production models would be considered.)
Type 2 Railgun.
The type 2 Railgun is an advanced Railgun that fires high velocity rounds.
The rounds are acclerated until the point where they falls into their atoms and creates an fast moving nuclear blast, powerful enough to disignterat an person.
The Type 2 Railgun is currently only existing on paper,as problem with the energy source occured and there is no protection against the radiation emitted by the blast.
Its doubtfully if the Type 2 Railgun while ever been built, however there are already plans for an automatic version that use super acclerated hardlight, for increasing the amount of ammonation available, without losing the blast ability.
Weapon Designation: Type-56 Heavy Munitions Rifle (nick named the Combine Rifle)
Role: Anti-infantry
Based On/Modified From (Leave Blank If Original): Though it is not based on another model, it is often recognized as the Needler version of the Plasma Repeater
Manufacturer: Lodam Armory
Notes: The Combine rifle is a heavy needle based weapon that is used to eliminate large swarms of infantry. it fires at a faster rate than the needler (much like how the plasma repeater was a larger version of the plasma rifle with a better rate of fire) however it's tracking ability has less affect due to the ammunition being modified to a smaller size than most Subanese crystal based weapons.
Weapon Designation: B-941 Heavy Marksman Rifle
Role: Suppression, Mid-long range combat
Based On/Modified From (Leave Blank If Original): M395 Designated Marksman Rifle
Manufacturer: Archurian Defence Solutions
Notes (Anything interesting, quirks, famous users, flavor stuff.)
  • Overhauls the M395 platform, keeping the bullpup design
  • Introduces a fire-rate switch mode between Semi automatic and burst fire, allowing for use by marksmen and also for suppression of hostiles.
  • Introduces a longer barrel to increase muzzle velocity, increasing overall distance the weapon can be fired and effectively hit targets.
  • New 'two tier' Sights. Useful for teams both on the ground and long distance spotter teams.
  • 15-round magazine (standard) or 26-round magazine (Assault)
  • P276 ammunition, effective against covenant shielding as well as effective against light armour plating.
  • Slightly lower rate of fire when compared to the standard M395 in semi-automatic fire mode, though rounds are larger.
  • Tested successfully in reconnaissance missions, currently being tested by Aegis Defence Services in defensive missions.
  • Designs influenced by Jun-A266, with input on zeroing distance for longer 'sniper' permutations.
  • Plans are to supply SPARTAN-IV marksman teams with B-941 HMRs, Headhunter teams also to be assigned one marksman
Not sure about name or anything, haven't thought this through to much, but a heavy battle rifle type of thing, fires m6d size rounds, HEDP, five-round burst, fairly slow firing, can switch to semi-auto fire for longer ranges, as each burst of five will have quite a lot of recoil due to both the length of the burst and the rounds that are being fired.

It can also carry secondary weaponry mounted under the barrel including: an energy bayonet (similar to the ones in halo 5, don't know if they are canon or not, but I feel like an energy bayonet should take up a similar amount of space and mass as something like a underslung grenade launcher due to the amount of power that would be required and current UNSC technological restraints)
a single shot grenade launcher,
a short barrel buckshot,
possibly a small caliber smg
and maybe a low charge rail or coilgun

The overall size and shape of the weapon would be similar to the concept art beta 5 shared above
