Hello Everyone!

Wow, it's been so long since I've last posted something to waypoint! Anyway, I noticed in the gameplay reveal that

I think most of infinity is still alive along with blue team. 343 can't just kill them off saying "oh they are all dead".
I'd like for the ship to be blown up. I've always hated it, it's ugly, it's a ship made by 343i to BE important and powerful and respected without actually earning it. It was clear to me from the beginning that it was very much 343i wanting you to associate all that importance and respect for the Infinity to them and Halo 4 yet it never did anything but lose, get boarded, almost blow up or run away entirely. The one time we ever see it do anything amounting to epic is when it rams through one of the pitiful little Storm Covenant picket cruisers at the start of Spartan Ops.

I hope it's blown up and took all of the Spartan IVs with it, along with Roland and Lasky and everyone else onboard, save for Palmer, Halsey and I guess Buck. They're the only characters associated with the Infinity that I don't despise. And even Buck is on the knife's edge about it because A: he didn't NEED to become a Spartan IV, that was another clamber by 343i; sticking him in Osiris because they knew the rest of the characters were so bad that they needed someone the fans liked in order to boost the team's likeability.
Out of 343 I don't know what to expect, I wouldn't be surprised if they destroy UNSC Infinity "just because some fans didn't like it".
God I'm still trying to find an explanation for how a small group like the banished defeated the UNSC, the only thing that occurs to me that the UNSC was very weak due to the conflict against the Created who barely had the strength to face the Banished .. but seriously, the UNSC cannot be destroyed by this group of brutes but hey, as I said, from 343 I already expect anything; but he would be very angry that he caused the destruction of the Infinite in a book, comic, etc.
Hard to tell at this point tbh. We’ve seen so little of the fighting so far but I do remember seeing a UNSC ship crashed on the Halo when John disembarked the Pelican, and it did resemble the Infinity a little bit, but it was too small as a whole to be the Infinity unless it was only one half of the ship. Whatever it is I’m still excited to get my hands on Infinite
The Infinity getting destroyed over the Halo (and possible being the cause of the Ring's damage) would explain the UNSC 'loot' that you find scattered around the game.

Though I suppose you could accomplish the same canonical reasoning with a few Frigates or Destroyers.
Good enough to enforce a change of insignia on everything.

I think reboot implies killing off quite a few characters. It definitely looks like some infinity SIV's and escort ships went down, but also notice how many ONI casualties, maybe they were doing research on the ring? This is one other massive fail for the Infinity after Requiem, honestly at this point they deserve to go. Keyes' old pillar and puny frigate did better.
I hope it’s not destroyed at the outset, we need to see it be destroyed. Opening cutscene, fine, but I’d hate if we’re just told it’s been destroyed without seeing it happen. I’d rather it not be a flashback or terminal either, it would take some of the weight out of the moment since we already knew it had happened.
This is interesting. I'm excited for the game but I really don't want already established characters and plot points to be killed. If it is destroyed, Lasky, Palmer, Majestic, Crimson, Osirus, Alpha 9, Blue Team and others need to survive... this is just frustrating at this point to not know.
I think all of those markers that read Deceased were just under the umbrella of Infinity. Squads sent out FROM Infinity but have since perished. That's how I interpreted it.

In the ship guide they mention that the UNSC was building a Sister ship called the Eternity. So...

I mean if it’s a one for one omage to Combat Evolved then the Infinity could be crashed on the ring. Maybe it didn’t make the massive hole. Although sure looks like it.
They're probably floating in space somewhere.
I am curious. Though the ships status only brings into question the fate of characters like, Blue Team, Osiris, Palmer, Lasky, etc. I hope they didn't just kill everyone off so Chief could be the mostly alone and for their "reboot".
I mean...at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they just destroyed everything to go back to a "Halo 1.0" feel of a game. but...that really would be my tapping out point for the franchise. No way could I continue after that nonsense
Given that they seem to be going for this whole "we've already lost" angle and having John basically be alone against the Banished, I can't imagine the Infinity surviving. Honestly, I think it'd make a pretty solid hook. Of course that wouldn't mean necessarily everybody on board biting it, but I think we're gonna lose at least one big name at the start of Infinite. Personally my money's on Lasky.

As much as I like Lasky and think he's one of the better developed characters in the series, I think I would be alright with this if his death means something; and as long as we don't lose everyone else. Or, as you say, losing at least one big name - or a few, as long as they aren't all discarded
If it is destroyed I sincerely hope it is not offscreen. There are rumors that it might have crashed into the Halo ring, but as long as they don't just destroy everything and get rid of the characters as dirty as that, I'm assuming Infinity is in a bad situation they can't risk exposing themselves.

I do not think it has been destroyed, however, i do think it got heavily damaged and they made an emergency jump away from the Halo and is now undergoing repairs (given the state the Galaxy is in you can imagine it would take quite a while until operational again. Thus the Infinity will most likely not appear in the Game up until the very end.

Although i personally hope for the Spirit to jump in somehow.

"Small group like the Banished"

Someone didn't pay attention in Halo Wars 2 lol

They had roughly one ship (there's some suggestion there's more but they dont seem to get involved plot-wise) and their forces got bested by an old human ship with half a crew. They do seem particularly small in HW2 compared to the normal size of a halo faction.
