They both have similar weapon, but covenants has the energy sword and the hammer.
I mean the UNSC, are armed with combat knifes and some Spartans may even arm themselves with another form of sharp blade like the kukri which is what Emile used or the Katana that was on the back of Spartans donning the Hyabusa armour. Although these blades are sharp, they may be used for the intimidation factor.

Just as a side note Spartans are usually the more likely soldiers of the UNSC to use melee weapons in combat as they have better reflexes and other enhancements to get the best of their opponents. Some Spartans wearing CQC may specialise in this form of combat.

i Doubt that we will see anything above bayonets , so no midvial mornignstar for ur marine. But maybe JUST MAYBE some kind of kinetic energy device for spartans could be a thing if 343 gets creative enough but i doubt .
In Halo 5, there is a civilian weapon called the golf club, which looks like one but acts like a gravity hammer, so maybe this could be an Easter egg to find in the campaign at some point in the future.

I've thought about something like that before. Either a weapon that launches knives or just throwing knives in general. It could be an interesting thing for gameplay to have to go up to the enemy you downed in order to pick up your thrown knife. MP could get real interesting with people running up to dead bodies to try to steal knives so they can throw them. You could even add it to the grenades list so you can cycle through objects to throw depending on what you pick up, just like having to cycle between the different types of grenades.
The UNSC pretty much just has the energy bayonets seen in Halo 5, knives (the standard issue ones issued to all military personnel, or personal ones such as the one Emile wields,) and the katanas wielded by the Spartan Hayabusas.
see the thing is all spartans are carring some sort of mele weapon foe cqc but a while back i asked myself the same question why not an energy katanna or a light saber then i realized the energey baonets/knght blades are more efective because the are multi purpose ex the energy sword an extremley dangourus melee weapon is great for cqc you have to carry that wieght and another long range weapon to use on others with ranged weapons the bayonet is usfull for multi purpose you can fight on both fronts . but however a spartan wielding a custom energy sword/kattana would be pretty cool

Yeah not gonna read that mess. Punctuation and paragraphs are your friend.
Don't some of the Spartan models in the later games have combat knives strapped to their armor?
In the hayabusa armor there is a katana in the back but I dont know if that is Canon
I like the idea of marines using sledge hammers. I agree with a few previous posters about spartans being the only soldiers to use melee weapons. They would probably improvise if they had to.

Cut them a break, not everyone is a master of the English language. Can't help but notice you forgot a comma after "Yeah" and didn't contribute anything to this thread.

Sorry for hurting your feelings pal, didn't know you cared so much for the other guy. Speaking of which, since you like being the hero, I better see you berating every other "non-constructive" comment in the forums, otherwise you'd just be another hypocritical keyboard warrior.

As for giving Marines sledgehammers for use in combat, I think it's a rather dumb idea as they'd get shot or ripped apart before they could even take a swing. There's my contribution to the thread buddy. 😘

Give said hammers to Spartans though...

I just got into Warhammer recently believe it or not and I'm having a hard time because I don't know where to start with that whole universe.
From a lore pov I doubt it.

There would be no real reason to give the average UNSC marine anything beyond a knife for two reasons:
1. Without energy shielding and armour such as that used by Brutes and Elites, it would be near enough impossible to get close enough to use one.
2. Even if they did get close enough brutes and elites are so physically superior to human fighters that being armed would make no difference in CQC. I suppose one could be useful if a soldier was ambushed in a small area by say a Jackal or Grunt but that's so situational it would be pointless.

It would make a bit more sense to give one to a Spartan I suppose but even then I wouldn't necessarily bother. Spartan IIs are so powerful that they probably don't need one against anything other than an Elite or Brute. Against an Elite a Spartan would still be out-classed most likely (same with a Brute I suspect but wouldn't be sure) so they,d be better off backing up and trying to shoot.
Spartan IIIs are more often deployed with stealth in mind, getting into a sword fight with an elite means they already failed so I can't see it being worth it.
Spartan IVs would see the same issues as IIs in my opinion.

So yeah, cool thought but I can't see the UNSC seeing a melee weapon as anything more than a waste of time and money.
I've always used the Warthog as a melee weapon.

I have a great idea, what if we named said hammers "Mjolnir", oh wait......

Best of luck with that my man, I'll say that much.
They have a wiki somewhere.

i really hope not
i mean at most maybe some form of combat knife, but the covenant have always been best known for the energy sword/grav hammer and i think adding a spartan/unsc melee weapon would kill the polarity of it

To be honest I think this is one of the main reasons we'll never see a big blockbuster warhammer adaptation. 40k is more of a setting consisting of numerous smaller stories. Yes they've been pushing a main plot lately, but it feels more like a sequal to the nebulous state of the story beforehand.
