[Locked] Halo Waypoint Forum Ban FAQ

OP Forum Team

Updated: 1/7/2016
Welcome to the Halo Waypoint forums!

The purpose of this thread is to explain the ban process on our forums, as well as their duration, effects and the possibility of appealing those bans.

What types of offenses can get me banned from the forums?

For an in-depth description of things that will get you banned, check out the Halo Waypoint Forum Rules. Here's a brief rundown:

  • Flaming and stat flaming
  • Spam
  • Inappropriate content
  • Discriminatory comments
  • Calling out members
  • Creating alternate accounts
  • Filing false reports
  • Reposting previously moderated content
  • Bypassing the profanity filter
  • Discussion of modding or hacking
  • Non-constructive posts
  • Threats or suggesting physical violence
What happens when I am banned?

If you find yourself banned from the Halo Waypoint Forums, you are banned from all aspects of the forums. When trying to access any part of the forums, you will be greeted by a message explaining that your account has been suspended. You will also notice that you have a new private message from one of our moderators, explaining the details of your ban.

Is there any way for me to appeal my ban?

You are allowed to appeal your ban if the ban length is 7 days or longer. You can send your appeal to the WP Ban Appeals account and include "Forum Ban Appeal" in the title. This does not guarantee that your ban will be overturned, but it will be investigated and you will receive a response. If your ban is not at least 7 days in length and you write in requesting an investigation, your original ban will be extended to 7 days.

How long are the issued ban lengths?

In the unfortunate situation that you should earn a ban, the progression ladder is incremental:

  • Warning
  • 1-day ban
  • 3-day ban
  • 5-day ban
  • 7-day ban
  • 14-day ban and a warning that your next offense will result in a permanent ban
  • Permanent ban
Note: There are cases where we will skip steps in the ban ladder if offenses are exceptionally egregious in nature, and there are also times where we may issue a ban length that is not on this list. Everything is taken as a case-by-case scenario.

Of course, there are some exceptions to our ban ladder. You can find them here:

  • Discriminatory posts or posts that threaten/include physical violence result in an instant 7-day ban. Serious offenses may result in an immediate permanent ban.
  • Posts linking to adult or shock-sites result in an immediate permanent ban.
  • The creation of alternate accounts results in an additional ban on top of the original ban. For instance, if someone gets a 1-day ban and then creates an alternate account to bypass it, the original ban is upped to a 3-day ban and the alternate account is immediately permabanned.
  • Improper appeals will result in your original ban being extended to 7 days.
Should you have any additional questions, you can send a private message to one of the administrators or moderators on this list, and they will gladly go over your question with you.
