Great... 343 added more competitive rank based challenges and rewards.

Only way to get certain skins is by sifting thru a bunch of afkers, trolls, grifers, and horrible teammates, I can't wait.

Oh, in Halo 4 as well none the less, and you have to hit an even higher rank this time around as well!

Enjoy guys!

343 really does not know their player base, my god.

Edit:

Go read the post by the user 'summon' titled 'Recon Slayer is such a mess' if anyone is confused why this is a bad thing.

Also note, I was able to get to 25 in Recon Slayer on my own via solo queueing, so I'm sure I can get to 25 in H4 Squad battle as well. So me actually achieving these skins or not is not the issue, its how poorly 343 implements this and how they have no idea how this is actually a bad thing for the community and the competitive playlists.

It creates an artificial desire for people to actually want to play that playlist and creates a sub-community of toxicity and griefers and trolls and afks. And all on top of this the MM is broken its self. Good players are always queued with bad teammates if you go in solo, thus creating a system where people queue with fresh smurf accounts and boost their mains.

Thanks again 343 for yet again not thinking anything through.
Ughhh, nothing can be perfect I guess haha Still a great update 343!
whats wrong with ranked? they should only have ranked playlist imo.

The problem is since halo ce came out I cant find a single ranked match.Qeued for almost 5 hrs a day and still a big no
Maybe if ranked actually ranked you. Making good players play with useless players is not ranking them or matching them.

That's because all the sweaties and tryhards go to social with their friends so they can ruin all the H3 matches
They're so disconnected with the playerbase it's insane. Halo 4 Squads is even worse than Recon Slayer, since there's now 11 potential trolls instead of only 7 per game. It's so depressing getting focused in a 3v2 firefight because you're the only one shooting while your other 2 teammates are looking at the enemy's cosmetics. I did 6 games so far and I have not played a 6v6, I doubt I'll play a 6v6 anytime soon.

EDIT:
I'm at 10 games now and it's even harder to carry that regular 4v4s since you have 5 heavy weights to carry instead of 3. It doesn't matter if you wipe half their team since your teammates are just afk or a cat dropped on a keyboard.

Yep, its awful.

I had this issue myself but it turned out for me to be my end issue. My Pings we're too high. I fixed it tho.
All they had to do was have a challenge like "Win X times in Y_Competitive_Playlist".
The rank system is just bad and it doesn't help that game modes like H3 Recon are simply not fun; some of the maps are not designed to have the automag as a spawn weapon (looking at Heretic for example).

Agreed. Its such a shame. Oh well, atleast its only Halo 4 skins for the reward. I hate Halo 4 anyway.
Got to 18 yesterday, only to fall back down to 15 in Recon Slayer. I'm giving up on this. If they don't realize that players who already are past rank 20 and are just there to either bully lower ranked players or keep ranking up. Either case, the effect is still the same.

Good luck to the rest of you going for it. These challenges are the new news that drowns out Halo 4's release.
All rewards should only be done in singleplayer, co-op or social multiplayer only. Stuff like the arby/chief nameplate, the recent halloween nameplates or the Endure challenge with the bug splattered Buck skin were fun to earn, why the hell force everyone into competitive where enjoyment is lost and the odds of earning the reward in time are slim?

Not everyone will acquire the skins in multiplayer. This is a known. However, players who reach higher levels should be rewarded for their efforts. I'm sorry that this frustrates you, but this is something we plan to continue to do as it helps players of higher skill show off that they are highly skilled in multiplayer efforts.

Devils advocate.

What if I don't like playing firefight or campaign at all and only prefer playing ranked multiplayer? Why do I have to go into those game modes to earn something when it doesn't match my play style?

We offer a variety of ways to earn skins, nameplates, and customization items in MCC. The vast majority can be earned through standard gameplay in any game mode with most historically being in non-PVP modes. This style of challenge helps support those who play multiplayer and would like to play ranked matchmaking.

Why not allow multiple avenues for skins? Usually the non-Competitive unlocks have been tied to various forms of PvE, not just one specific type. This allows for more varied gameplay as the competitive playlists are literally just the same game mode on repeat.
Then it appeases more crowds and people aren't feeling "forced" into playing something they don't enjoy.

The H3 Recon Playlist as an example, has a lot of issues, the spawns on some of the maps used in the playlist being one of them. Too often end up just getting repeatedly spawn killed as the game usually spawns players next to their teammates, regardless of what is going on with that teammate. Also does not help that half the time it feels like it falls on pure luck to get decent teammates or how framerate actually does affect the automag.

You know what? This is a very valid point. Supporting those who play multiplayer in ranked is something that is not really done as much compared to the overall game. It is important to show that they are also an important part of this community.

Postums, have they (the dev's) considered adding additional different challenges to get these skins? I think the concern comes from the view (I have looking at this) that multiplayer and ranked players had just as fair of a chance to earn the ODST skins from the Endure challenge. Whereas these challenges seem to favor them more exclusively over other Halo fans that prefer the PVE modes like campaign or firefight. An alternative could be something as ridiculous as killing 2000 elites, but if it is difficult enough that not everyone can get it, I think the company's goals would still be met and players would not feel marginalized if they are not avid competitive multiplayer players like myself.

No one is forcing you to do this. There are tons of nameplates, skins and stuff like that and you can only use one at a time anyway.

Postums,

What you and the person you quoted are both doing is gate keeping. As the developer of a longstanding series with numerous communities all over the spectrum from casual to hardcore, pve to pvp, single player vs. multiplayer, and custom content creators to name a few, forcing these groups into specific modes they may not enjoy is not okay. You should be focusing on making the content accessible.

You can have a progression model that rewards and incentivizes players for demonstrating skill or participating in a certain event without alienating the rest your player base. After the challenge to unlock that particular reward expires, make reward available for purchase at higher season point costs (10SP for example).
Now players can choose to grind their way to these rewards in any mode by any means they wish, while those who successfully completed the challenge for their reward can enjoy early acquisition and the bragging rights available during that period.

You could throw these awards into an exclusive season that regularly updates its offerings when these events expire or simply add a button prompt for direct season points expenditure whenever you select the challenge exclusive item in the customization menu.
Alternate unlocks are only alternate if there are multiple ways to get said unlock.

I for one did not get into halo because of its pro scene or pvp. It was the casual coop pve that drew me in back in 2001, but the over emphasis on the pro scene to the exclusion of everyone else is driving me (and I imagine others as well) away.
