Update: Our latest content update is now available. Read the patch notes and get the full details here. Additionally, download codes for the Halo 3: ODST Campaign have begun to roll out to qualified players. Finally, the matchmaking update that adds Remnant to Halo 2: Anniversary and Big Team Battle, as well as Team Doubles is now live.
As I put together the very blog you are reading, the upcoming content update, the addition of the Halo 2: Anniversary map Remnant, and the Halo 3: ODST campaign enter the final stages of the certification process. Over the past few days, you may have seen ODST appearing in the Xbox Store with placeholder dates, as the Xbox team has been running final redemption tests. We’re currently working closely with the Xbox Live team to finalize exact timing and availability, and will provide an update once a final drop time is locked.
To help hold you over, we’ve got some early details on what’s to come – read on.
In addition to adding Remnant and enabling the download of ODST, this next content update will also introduce some fixes and features for ranking, parties and roster, UI, and more. Specifically, the team has been working on one specific item that we'd like to detail now. Currently in MCC, viewing a player’s File Share requires that they be an online friend or accessible via campaign leaderboards, and in an effort to make sharing and finding awesome maps and game types much easier, we’ve implemented some tools that will allow you to do so. Here’s the rundown of how things will work after the update:
New “Find Player” Search
At the main menu, press “X” to bring up the roster. Next, select yourself by pressing “A” on your Gamertag. (Not the game session)
Once you’ve downloaded the CU, you’ll see “Find Player” under the menu, which will allow you to lookup any player (regardless of whether or not you are Friends with them, or if they are online.)
Next up, enter the gamertag of the player you are looking for. You’ll then be directed to the “Player Details” page for this player. Select File Share, and proceed to grab the files you’re looking for.
This will easily allow you to discover and download new favorite maps and game types, and we’ll be on the lookout for these as well as we highlight some favorites. If you have some crafty canvases or wacky custom games you’ve created, or want to share one of your favorites, make sure to post it in the Community Creations section.
As always, we’ll have the full patch notes and details once the CU becomes available.
Playlists and Ranks
Last week, we talked about a few things on the playlist front, including the return of Team Doubles as a permanent playlist, new voting option ordering for Halo 2 Classic, Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo 2: Anniversary that will improve gametype variety, the addition of more ranked playlists, and more. For the full scoop on what’s on the way with the next playlist update, head here. As mentioned last week, we’re working to get this playlist update out shortly after the CU drops. After the CU becomes available (we’re aiming for a few days after), we’ll also be adding rankings to Halo: CE, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 3, Halo 4, Team Hardcore, and Team Doubles.
In Cup #3, Evil Geniuses managed to pull out another victory, increasing their first place lead in the HCS Season 2 Standings. To sign up for this weekend’s cup and compete for free, assemble your team and head here.
Last week, we discussed updates that were being made to help improve balance on the HCS version of Shrine. Based on feedback we’ve received from professional teams and players, this new variant will be integrate into HCS play starting with ESL Cup #5, taking place on June 6-7. To avoid confusion during this weekend’s cup, the final map variants will be uploaded into the Official HCS File Share on Monday, June 1. If you’d like to begin practicing on the map before then, the map is available for CTF and Slayer under “HCS Shrine April Spawn Test.” Come next week, this version will be replaced, an Assault-friendly variant will be added, and the old variants will be removed.
Before we move on, we must mention Evil Geniuses’ recent teamtage, “Untouchable.” With incredible clips from Snipedown, Roy, Lethul, and Lunchbox, we can all rejoice that incredible editor Muggsy has labeled this montage “Teamtage One,” indicating that there might just be more to come. Enjoy below:
