Greetings Spartans! The MCC Insider Program is quickly ramping up and we need your help!
What is the MCC Insider Program? How do you join? How do you opt-out? What's it all mean!? Read on for answers to these and many other questions you might have. And remember, you can always join in the discussion and find additional answers here in our MCC forum.
What is the MCC Insider Program?
The MCC Insider Program is our community partnership program that we're using to help our development efforts for the big MCC update that's underway. MCC Insiders are members of the community that opt-in and want to help playtest and provide valuable feedback throughout the MCC update project.
During development, public "flights" will be released to selected Insider participants that will offer hands-on opportunities to play work-in-progress content and provide valuable data and feedback to our team.
Initial invitations to the first flight will be going out very soon to members of our community and we're super eager to get started on this journey together. If you haven't yet joined, don't fret, we have plenty of room and would love to have your support. Keep reading for details on how to sign up!
Important Note: Not everyone in the MCC Insider Program will gain access to every flight. Initially, the participation audience will be intentionally small as the team works on very targeted, specific goals and a focused subset of game content & experiences. As the program continues, access will broaden and eventually, everyone who wants to will get a chance to participate.

What exactly is a “Public Flight”?
A public flight is a work-in-progress game build and will often be on a small representative slice of the complete game. Each flight will have specific content aligned with specific development goals. For example, the first flight is aimed at stress testing our updated matchmaking systems and will only include Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer on a handful of fan favorite maps with short games to really maximize throughput. Our team will be monitoring some key data like match times and match success to validate the work they’ve done.
This process, along with the scope of content, will grow and evolve over time with your help and feedback!
While the team has every intent to release builds that are as stable as possible, we fully expect a few hiccups and bumps along the way - which is the whole point of flighting. We look forward to your participation and feedback but we also ask for your understanding and appropriate expectations as we share work-in-progress builds directly with you.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO OWN / HAVE MCC INSTALLED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN A PUBLIC FLIGHT?
No, you don’t have to own MCC to participate. However, players who have prior experience with MCC do have a higher likelihood of getting selected to participate in a flight(s). But the content itself is a separate, standalone download that doesn’t require the retail game.
Why isn’t everyone in the MCC Insider Program included in the flight?
It’s awesome how many people have signed up and expressed interest to help us improve MCC! It’s also really important to us that we deliver a positive flight experience for our participants and release a build that is stable and helps us achieve our testing goals. As this is a new process for us, and MCC is complicated project, we’re intentionally keeping the audience small and targeted for at least this inaugural flight. We hope things go exactly according to plan but the reality is that surely there will be at least some amount of issues we’ll have to work through together – that’s just the nature of flighting. Over time, we will absolutely be expanding our flight participant audience to include more and more players and remain committed to ensuring that eventually, everyone who wants to participate is given the opportunity.
How can I improve my odds of being selected for a flight?
Well, for each flight, the number of participants and criteria used to build out the roster will likely vary depending on the specific needs and goals of the flight.
Going forward, one way you can definitely help your odds is to just play the current retail version of MCC. Everything we’re doing is building upon the current game and it’s important to us that participants have some context when providing feedback on specific fixes and improvements.
When can we expect to get our hands on the first public flight?
We’re in the process of validating and testing what will become the public flight build now and it’s expected that by the time this article is published, invitation emails will be sent out to participants in the first flight.
I didn’t get selected for a flight. Now what?
Hang in there! Please don’t abandon us, we do need you. In the meantime, make sure you’re setup with the Xbox Insider Program (if not already) and consider spending some time re-acclimating yourself with MCC at it exists today. We will call for your help soon enough, stay tuned.
Is the MCC public flight considered confidential?
Yes, the MCC Insider Program is governed by the Microsoft Confidentiality Agreement that all participants agreed to upon registration. This means that participants won’t be able to stream, capture, post or discuss the flights on Waypoint or any other public channels. Instead, participants will be asked to use the Xbox Insider Hub to file issues and everyone will receive an official feedback survey via email at the conclusion of a flight.
How can I learn more about a specific flight?
The Xbox Insider Hub on your console is where critical information will be delivered to flight participants by the MCC development team. Please pay attention and check back often! You’ll find important news updates, details on coordinated play sessions, and a list of known issues.
Pay particular attention to the “Announcement” tab which will contain the latest and greatest important details. Additionally, the “Known Issues” tab will display any problems reported by the community and provide the opportunity to upvote if you experience a similar issue.
How do I provide feedback?
Specifics may vary slightly depending on the respective flight, but in general there are three primary means of feedback:
1. A lot of critical data will be gathered by our team on the backend. Pay attention to the particular focus for a flight and jump in during the specified playtimes and voila, you’ve just helped us immensely.
2. MCC Insiders will receive surveys from the Xbox Research team after each flight, typically the day after that last playsession. These are used to gather player feedback, further assess the progress of the program and the state of each flight.
3. If you encounter a bug or something that doesn’t seem right, you can use the Xbox Insider app on your console to “Report Problem.” To do this, go to the screen you’re giving feedback on (in this case, somewhere within the MCC flight build, press and hold the Xbox button on your controller, and when you see the power menu, select “report a problem.”
Please make sure to check the “Known Issues” tab on the Xbox Insider HUB before you report a problem as it may be something the team is already aware of!
Anything else I need to know?
For now, not really! But if you do have questions, stop by the MCC Insider Program discussion thread here on Halo Waypoint and let us know.
And if you haven't already, be sure to check out our MCC Development Update blogs for background on the project and current progress.
