After a little respite to spend some time with my family, I'm back in the swing of things and ready to recap all the latest Halo happenings. Today we'll be discussing Halo 3: ODST joining Halo: The Master Chief Collection, esports action for Halo 3 and Halo 5: Guardians, Halo 5 turning five years old, preorders for awesome Halo gear, and much more. Let's jump into our latest Community Update feet first!

Earlier this week, on its 11th birthday, Halo 3: ODST (with Firefight!) made its way to PC as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our favorite fireteam of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs), Alpha-Nine, is sent into the heart of New Mombasa to see what the Covenant could be plotting. As they enter the city, the team is scattered and must fight to find one another and regroup to accomplish their mission. This memorable campaign is certainly one of my favorites and I can't wait for some of you to experience it for the first time.

The legendary title landing on PC is certainly worth celebrating, but this update also brought so much more to the entire collection on Xbox One and PC. To help highlight all of the new content that arrived this week, Andy Salisbury joined me on stream to try and cover all the details. You can catch this Halo 3: ODST PC Showcase on our YouTube channel or right here!

If you don't have time to watch that full rebroadcast, here's a quick list of some of the bigger ticket items:

  • Halo 3: ODST Campaign & Firefight (with dedicated servers)
  • Halo 2: Anniversary per-piece customization
  • Halo 3 hit registration update
  • Season 3's 80+ customization elements including Halo 3 weapon skins and visors, ODST Firefight characters, and all new nameplates
  • Improved Challenge Hub and Challenge implementation
  • Halo 3: ODST Weapons added to Halo 3 multiplayer (Silenced SMG, Automag, and Brute Plasma Rifle)
  • The Battle Rifle, Assault Rifle, Hornet, and Anti-Air Wraith have been added to ODST Firefight
  • Halo 3: ODST Firefight custom game settings can now be saved and shared

As a reminder for those of you who already own the Halo 3: ODST add-on for MCC on Xbox, the addition of Firefight to Halo 3: ODST in MCC comes at no extra charge. All you have to do is update your game and it'll be there for you!

Press KIT

Looking to upgrade the wallpapers on your phone or computer? Snickerdoodle has got you covered with the Halo 3: ODST press kit. It features the artwork above as well as numerous screenshots, banners for social media, and even a download to our teaser trailer. Get a new coat of paint for your setup at!

With Halo 3: ODST, Season 3, and improved Halo 3 hit registration successfully out in the wild, our focus has now shifted to Halo 4. Our current roadmap projects that Halo 4's public flighting should kick off before the end of October, but please remember that flighting dates are always subject to change. To learn more about that flight, stay tuned here on Waypoint for our September MCC Development Update next week. All I'll say for now is that Halo Insiders should be prepared to bring their keyboards and their controllers.

To be on the forefront of MCC's features and participate in Halo 4 flighting, you'll need to be a registered Halo Insider. As friendly reminder, registering won't guarantee you access to flights but it will guarantee that you'll be considered. By following the steps outlined below, you'll increase your chances of being selected.

  • Register on
  • Verify the email address you've provided for communication
  • Opt-in to receive communications from us
  • Opt-in to Xbox and/or PC flights (whichever you want to participate in)
  • Link your Steam account (PC Flighting)
  • Upload/update your DxDiag (PC Flighting)

To help celebrate the launch of Halo 3: ODST, our current featured social offering is Recon Slayer in Halo 3. Featuring the stealthy combo of the Automag and Silenced SMG, this 4v4 playlist brings an entirely new experience to Halo 3 multiplayer. Next week, we'll keep the love for stealthy gameplay going with Recon SWAT where you'll be able to show everyone how well you can BIP BAP BAM!

To stay informed of our playlist updates, be sure to follow @Halo on Twitter and keep an eye on the MCC Playlist Update thread here on Waypoint!

Starting this week, we will be supporting online tournaments for both Halo 3 (PC) and Halo 5 (Xbox)! Our primary focus will be shifting to the Halo 5 Pro Series while Halo 3's format gets updated to weekly open tournaments featuring twice the prize pool. GT Halo

Although registration may have already closed for GTHalo's "schoolyard" style tournament, which pairs two set duos onto full teams, you'll still be able to enjoy the action over on this Saturday, September 26, starting at 9am PT!

Our friends at SWAT Nation just opened registration for their SWAT O'WEEN tournament at the end of October. Much like GT Halo's schoolyard style tournaments, this SWAT competition will also pair duos randomly to form full squads. To learn more about the event and register, head to!

Our second episode of Halo Game Sense showcases an absolutely insane Killpocalypse from RyaNoob during an MCC Pro Series tournament match. With the help of the Muggsy's phenomenal video editing, Shyway walks us through the memorable play step-by-step. The level of detail in this piece has truly made it one of my favorite Halo videos of all time. This is what I would consider "a must watch":

We've nearly made it to October, Halo 5's birthday month, and that means it's just about time to celebrate! To help you party, we'll be turning on Global Double XP all month long and gifting a free Greatest Hits Customization Pack to anyone who logs in on October 27 for Halo 5's 5th Anniversary. I don't think we'll ever be able to thank you enough for your love and support over the past five years, but we certainly can amp up the rewards to try!

October's Global Double XP is certainly our biggest bit of news in this section, but I wouldn't ever leave you hanging without a schedule for the month. Here's what you can expect in Halo 5 while you take advantage of those increased XP rewards!

Halo Infinite Statue

In partnership with our friends at Dark Horse Comics, we've crafted a 10.5" Master Chief statue that brings the surface of Zeta Halo straight to the surface of your favorite shelf. I didn't realize it until my second glance, but Chief is actually holding the MA40 Asssault RIfle and striking the pose from Halo Infinite's box art.

You can preorder this iconic statue in your region using the links below!

new Funko POP! FIgures

Everyone's favorite adorable figures now take the shape of Master Chief and Infinite's Mark VII armor. With six different figures to go after, the hunt to collect them all is officially on. To aid you in your quest, I've assembled links to each of the figures below!

HEX x Halo

HEX bags are known for their clean looks and overall functionality. Their Halo line is no different and really hits the "if you know, you know" vibe that I love to have when traveling. If you're looking to upgrade your backpack game, be sure to check out the HEX x Halo collab below!

Halo 3: ODST Mousepad

Make sure you're ready to stealthily work your way through Covenant forces with the proper gear. Accompanying Halo 3: ODST to PC this week is an oversized mousepad featuring the game's legendary box art. You can pick one up today at!

Cosplay Guide: The Rookie

Halo's first official cosplay guide launched yesterday with an in-depth look at everyone's favorite new guy – Rookie! This 70+ page guide goes into great detail covering the Rookie's armor, combat suit, weapons (Silenced SMG and Silenced Pistol), decals, colors, and more. Whether you're a seasoned cosplay veteran or just getting started, we think this will be a helpful resource for you when looking at making your own ODST armor.

You can get more details on how we built this guide by reading our full post here on Waypoint. You can also download the full file (and a mobile friendly one) using the links below:

It was quite the undertaking to find and crack open builds of Halo 3: ODST from 2009 to find these perfect models of the Rookie, but we're extremely proud of the result and we hope you all enjoy.

  • Community Spotlight: Featuring beautiful brick builds, spectacular spray paint art, and a whole lot more, last week's #HaloSpotlight from snickerdoodle brings recent fan art to the forefront. Take a look and see what your fellow Halo community members have been creating!
  • Employee Spotlight: Our latest Employee Spotlight shines on Erika Martinez, a Producer on our Game Editor Team (Tools & Workflow). After successfully launching Halo Wars 2 and all of its DLCs, she joined the Halo Infinite team to help improve our internal tools and workflow. In addition to being a world-class producer, she also leads many Diversity & Inclusivity initiatives in the studio and even cosplays. To learn more about her story to 343 and her current role on Halo Infinite, be sure to give it a read on!
  • Hispanic Heritage Month: As we enter Hispanic Heritage Month's second week, we continue to celebrate with our colleagues and community. Halo Infinite

Canon Fodder

In case you missed the latest Canon Fodder from GrimBrotherOne, we unveilved a character you may find in Halo Infinite's campaign and touched on the latest Mjolnir armor lore. To make it easier on you, I've pulled some of the details from that blog over here but I still highly recommend checking out the full post here!

Jega 'Rdomnai

A mysterious and battle-ravaged Sangheili warrior, Jega 'Rdomnai (concept art above by David Heidhoff) represents one of several new characters that you will encounter along your way through the Halo Infinite campaign, with each confrontation playing its own part in Chief’s continuing journey.

In hushed whispers throughout the ranks of the Banished, Jega ‘Rdomnai’s name is spoken of with care. The blademaster’s history is shrouded in rumor and half-truths. Some say he was an experiment, an affront to his own kind. Others make mention of a clandestine ambush gone wrong. Very few know the truth, fewer still speak of it. One thing is certain: he has hunted demons before, and as the first recruit welcomed into the Hand of Atriox, he will do so again.

Mjolnir Mark VII

Created with input from Dr. Halsey herself, the latest Mark VII iteration refreshes the Mjolnir technical architecture with breakthroughs in neural interfaces, shield emitters, fusion power, and armor formulation.

The Mark VII designation refers to a number of prototype platforms that test the ever-evolving Mjolnir Generation 3 standard. The most recent design to bear the name was selected by Dr. Halsey from Materials Group's KEYSTONE development program.

We're all extremely excited for you to see the Mark VII armor (concept art by Isaac Hannaford) and Jega 'Rdomnai in-game down the road. Once the time is right, it'll happen.

Monster eNERGY

Since Halo 3, pairing a big game launch with a drink promotion has become pretty standard – but it's still always very exciting to see. For Halo Infinite, we've teamed up with Monster Energy to bring you a unique experience. Keep an eye out for Monster cans emblazoned with Master Chief and stock up to earn Double XP, exclusive in-game items, and more.

Even though the launch of Halo Infinite has shifted, all of your rewards will be applied to your account and be ready when it's time to jump in. You can get your first look at Halo Infinite weapon coatings, learn how the promotion works, and more by reading our official announcement on!

In my last two Community Updates I was able to release some pretty awesome Halo 3: ODST art, and I'm happy to continue the trend this week. Today we're sharing a piece of concept art that highlights the Rookie as he makes his way though the streets of New Mombasa. The mood and overall quality of this piece makes it one of my favorites released so far. Plus, timing it with the launch of Halo 3: ODST on PC just makes it that much sweeter.

To save this art for yourself, you can click on the links (or the art itself) below!

We covered quite a bit in this Community Update, but I recognize that many of you were also probably hoping for some Halo Infinite news. Trust me, we're as eager to share more as you are to see and hear more. With the extra time being factored into our development schedule we're still working through adjustments to our community and marketing plans. Once all of these pieces are re-aligned and we can share and show things that live up to the bar the team is working hard to achieve, we certainly will. We appreciate the outpouring of support and are excited to share more down the road.

It takes lots of time and effort to coordinate reveals and the change in Halo Infinite's release window has meant that our messaging roadmap has had to shift around too. All of this comes with the wild nature of game development, even on the community side of it, but please know that we'll share cool Halo Infinite news as soon as it's ready.

Until next time,
