Episode 18

By jay frechette -

As E3 2015 comes to a close I’ve been thinking a lot about when I first started at 343 Industries. My second week was E3 2012 where we first debuted Halo 4. So I, like many of you, was seeing it for the first time. After Halo 4 shipped, I remember  my excitement about being part of a brand new Halo game from the very beginning. That game was Halo 5: Guardians. Three years went by all too fast and as we buckle down for the final stretch this summer, it’s time for The Bulletin to return.

Our vision for The Bulletin has always been to not only bring you the latest Halo news, but also provide you with entertaining segments that look deeper into the universe, development, and community of Halo. Taking a short break this past month and a half allowed the team the time needed to tell engaging stories in more interesting ways.

We’re also changing the cadence of the show from weekly to bi-weekly leading up to the launch of Halo 5: Guardians. We have a ton of really fun segments we’re working on and can’t wait to share them. And if you’ve got an awesome idea, I’d love to hear what you think we should cover in future episodes.

In this week’s episode we’re reporting from E3 on all the huge Halo announcements coming out of the show. Plus, we get an exclusive walkthrough of our new multiplayer mode: Warzone and talk shop with the 343 audio team as they put the finishing touches on the E3 campaign demo.

Thank you for your support of the Bulletin and joining us on our journey as we head into the launch of Halo 5: Guardians on October 27. For more, be sure to follow me on Twitter @jayfrechette. We’ll see you July 3 for the next episode of The Bulletin.

Here are my top picks for what to watch right now on The Halo Channel.

For me, there’s always a catch 22 to working on games--especially my favorite ones. On the one side, I get to be a part of actually getting the game shipped, see it start from a concept to a finished game, and get to see my name in the credits. That’s all awesome. The bad part? The whole story is spoiled way before I ever get to play it.

I sure do love learning how things are made. Whether it’s a game, costume, or toy; I’m fascinated by the process and it always ends up being more complex or interesting than I imagined. Being at San Diego Comic Con this year and seeing all the incredible stuff people show up with reminded me of this. The 405th, a community of Halo cosplayers, were there donned in amazing armor and props. Mega Bloks built an epic diorama to help us reveal a new Warzone map, Raid on Apex 7.Plus, we had Warzone...

Before working at 343, I was aware of esports but it wasn’t until RTX 2013 that I really got into it. I remember sitting backstage of the qualifiers for the Halo Global Championship in complete awe of the production and competitive play. I found myself getting caught up in the high-stakes matches and becoming interested in the personal stories of pros and amateurs alike that showed up.
