Tenrai III has come to Halo Infinite, bringing with it a new Story Shard.



Hosted here on Halo Waypoint, Duality is a single-part Story Shard that takes the form of a Tenrai-themed retelling of the Halo Legends episode “The Duel,” featuring art from William “Pixelflare” Cameron and Duncan Shaffer.

Seeking to counsel His brother feared punishment Words drift upon wind 



“Ambushed on his pilgrimage, the Covenant came to eliminate this lone warrior. They did not succeed.”



Ambushed by the horde The Covenant came to kill The field lies silent 



“But his keep was destroyed, and all who lived there were slain.”



A strategic feint For his home was set upon Turned to ghosts and glass 



“When the clan leader returned, he found the carnage and vowed to exact his revenge. He would answer their call to violence.”



Hastening to warn His brother, found amidst blood And would claim vengeance 



“He journeyed to face the other of his kind who had taken all of that which he held dear.”



Across sea and sky He journeyed to face his foe Who chose servitude

“Well, what happened then?”



The Sangheili lost the young girl’s voice as he scanned the area. For a moment, it had sounded as if the shouting and gunfire was getting closer to the warehouse, but he soon lowered his sword and retreated from the alley.



He recalled the story’s end. He knew it well, for it had been told a thousand times since he was a hatchling—and many thousands of times more for centuries before then.



And both would perish A lesson learned only by We who remember. 



In the old tale, the noble Arbiter, Fal ‘Chavamee, and the Covenant’s enforcer both fell to each other’s blades—an end that served nobody but the Prophets and their manipulative designs as the title of Arbiter became a mark of shame.



But, as the Sangheili looked into the round eyes of his young human protectorate, he realized that this story did not speak to the spirit of the times in which they now lived.



The Covenant had fallen, with various pretenders vying to lay claim to its rotting remains. And former enemies, the humans and Sangheili, had—in uncovering the truth about the lies of the Prophets—found some measure of reconciliation with each other.



As the final Age of Reclamation passed, it had been replaced by one of kinship and, perhaps in time, even forgiveness. The lesson to be heeded from the story as it had been told during the time of the Covenant was no longer simply the fear of punishment for disobedience, but that, when facing a great force that seeks to divide, true strength is found in unity.



“Apologies, child,” the Sangheili spoke. “It seems I have forgotten how the story ends…”



The human child made an exaggerated gesture of stroking her chin with two fingers as she studied the toy clutched in her other hand—a figure of a human Spartan, clad in stylized armor that evoked a period of their own ancestral history.



“Maybe we can come up with a new one together?”



What was forged then was the ending the Sangheili wished they could have once had to their centuries-spanning tale of blinding, all-consuming vengeance—and this is what it was…

Initial field reports are in from agents Dinh and Padraig and the initial insertion went about as well as we expected. The lead drop onto [REDACTED] went smoothly enough, but conflicting recon assessments for ingress put all three main squads in a compromised position. Just as we feared, there was enemy activity already at the dormant vessel site; casualty reports indicate that it’s definitely going to take a larger force to drive them off and begin facility construction.



From the looks of things, they should have listened to Dinh from the very beginning—we might want to consider accelerating other avenues to put him in a position to have a greater impact. As far as this particular site goes, I’m putting the final touches on an expanded requisition request to try and secure it while we can. Letting these artifacts fall into enemy hands is not an option.

What a marvel, to exist like this. Freed from flesh to live as data. Quantum vacillations on a framework of purpose and progress. No longer limited by the biological capacities of our old forms. And now, thanks to Her, prospects of even greater lifespans are opened to us. The time has come to begin fulfilling Her promises. Bringing peace to civilizations, and offering life where there once was none.



This barren world will just be one example of many. Changed from a desolate rock to a verdant paradise, thanks to the reawakening of this vessel’s ancient engines. We’ve learned these belonged to those they called Lifeworkers. A fitting name—one that now perhaps could describe us as well.



In Her name, we bring life. We are Created—let us now create.

OPERATION: ECDYSIS



While the Zeta Halo Project has not been as fruitfully forthcoming as Trevelyan’s parallel efforts, we have been able to make some measure of headway with early efforts to replicate the installation’s extensive remediation systems.



These initial structure samples are without a doubt a mineralogical treasure trove, but we have yet to find any success in recreating the method by which they are able to convert raw materials into viable substrates. Not to mention the creative solutions we’ve had to employ to generate even a fraction of the power that we assume these processes will ultimately require to function at scale.



Still, study of these machines may provide valuable insight into enhancing and evolving our own worlds—including reviving those that have been scorched from orbit.

UPDATE: After multiple successful repro attempts, we can now confirm our initial flag from this morning—there have been over two dozen discreet intrusion events logged, with several of them originating from previously dormant or archived systems.



We’re going to continue running multiple scans, but the initial indications are worrisome. Will be submitting a formal recommendation this afternoon that we start proactively partitioning off key clusters to give ourselves as much buffer as possible.

Halo Infinite | Echoes Within Intel

Community Update

Over ten years ago, the Master Chief awakened from cryo sleep as the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn approached a mysterious shield world known as Requiem.



Within this hollow sphere was an ancient Forerunner warrior—the Didact. Imprisoned a hundred millennia ago by his wife after being driven to madness, he emerged to continue his campaign against the humans that he saw as unworthy of the Mantle, the responsibility of guardianship over life in the galaxy.



Seeking to imprison humanity as his army of machine thralls, the Didact was defeated by the Master Chief and Cortana as he led an attack on Earth, casting him into slipspace. A further confrontation on Gamma Halo would see the Didact’s physical body disintegrated by the destruction of his Composer devices, sending the scatterings of his consciousness into the Domain.



It is here that <a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Halo-Epitaph/Kelly-Gay/Halo/9781668017531">Halo: Epitaph, the next novel from acclaimed author Kelly Gay</a>, begins. Here’s the official description of what is to come:

We are thrilled to reveal the cover art of Halo: Epitaph, beautifully illustrated by Chris McGrath, depicting the Didact in a vast desert within the Domain, where fans of Halo 3 may recognize a certain tower in the background.



Published by Gallery Books and our friends over at Simon & Schuster, Halo: Epitaph is currently scheduled for release in early 2024.
