Earlier this week, the new Tenrai IV Operation went live and brought with it the highly anticipated Match Composer feature along with some additional updates. We have also implemented some changes to maps and modes in Big Team Battle, seeking to address community feedback and playlist data that we have been collecting to improve the experience for players.



Let’s take a look at what’s new!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">OUR GOALS</h2>



This quality-of-life update was made with four core goals in mind for improving gameplay in BTB.



1: We want to see an increase in Flag Steals and Flag Captures so that fewer CTF matches in BTB end from the time limit expiring due to stalemate scenarios.



2: We want to reduce extended stalemates in certain Zone Sets for Total Control. We also want to make the Total Control Zone Sets as fair as possible for both teams on all maps.



3: We want to increase and improve the fun factor and practicality of using vehicles in BTB—especially Warthogs.



4: We want to increase the reliability of finding a hard counter to specific enemy strategies. Knowing you can always get to a Hydra spawner will help players counter air vehicles, for example.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MAPS & MODES</h2>



GENERAL



<ul>
<li>We have added more vehicles across the board. This will improve the amount of vehicular combat present in BTB by adding in more of the mechanical mayhem we all know and love.</li>



<li>Flag Placements have been updated to increase the number of Flag Steal attempts and successful Flag Captures.</li>



<li>For BTB: CTF, Flag Return Time has been increased from 40 seconds to 60 seconds. This helps add more exciting gameplay moments when both teams are battling around a pulled Flag.</li>



<li>Total Control zone placements now match what is found in BTB Heavies. These placements improve the flow of the match by reducing stalemate scenarios. They’re also tuned to be more fair for both teams.</li>



<li>UI Markers for Power Weapons and Power Equipment are now enabled.</li>



<li>Static Respawn Zones have been enabled for all symmetrical maps when playing BTB: Slayer. Team spawns will no longer flip in this mode.</li>



<li>Sniper- and Launcher-class Weapon Racks will now spawn static selections of weapons.</li>



<li>Dynamo Grenade spawners have been reduced or completely eliminated on most maps for improved vehicular gameplay.</li>



<li>Disabled Campaign Weapon Variants from having a chance to spawn in Weapon Drop Pods.</li>

<li>Sniper-class Power Weapon Pads at Hex Archway and Rock Archway will now only spawn the S7 Sniper Rifle.</li>



<li>Sniper-class Weapon Racks at each base are now set to always spawn the Stalker Rifle.</li>



<li>Launcher-class Weapon Racks at Canyon Base and Cliff Base are set to always spawn the Hydra.</li>



<li>Launcher-class Weapon Racks at Rock Power Node and Hex Power Node are set to always spawn the Ravager.</li>



<li>Launcher-class Weapon Racks at Center Rock Path and Center Hex Path are set to always spawn the Hydra.</li>



<li>Dynamo Grenade spawns have been reduced—they have a chance of spawning in the Loot Caves, but nowhere else on the map.</li>



<li>The Center Passage Powerup Pad is set to always spawn Active Camo.</li>



<li>Powerup Pads set to always spawn Active Camo have been added behind the bases (at Hex Pocket and Rock Pocket).</li>



<li>Added a Vehicle Pad that spawns the Ghost in front of each base.</li>



<li>Added a Vehicle Pad that spawns the Banshee at both bases.</li>



<li>Added two neutral Vehicle Pads that spawn Razorbacks to middle of the map (near Broken Ring and Wreckage).</li>
</ul>



DEADLOCK

<li>Two new Power Weapon Pads set to spawn S7 Sniper Rifles now reside near the center of the map (at each overlooking side of the central trench).</li>



<li>Precision-class Weapon Racks at the bottom of each base will now guarantee that one spawns a BR75 Battle Rifle and the other spawns a VK78 Commando.</li>



<li>The Sniper-class Power Weapon Pad at the Pelican Crash Site will now always spawn the Skewer.</li>



<li>Sniper-class Weapon Racks at Bridge and Watchtower are now set to always spawn the Stalker Rifle.</li>



<li>Launcher-class Weapon Racks near High Cargo and Low Cargo have been set to always spawn the Hydra.</li>



<li>Launcher-class Weapon Racks at each base have been set to always spawn the Ravager (right next to the Shade Turrets).</li>



<li>The Melee-class Power Weapon Pad at the center of the map has been replaced by a Grenade Pad. It is the only Grenade Pad that will spawn Dynamo Grenades and will serve as a counter to the new vehicles that have been added to the map.</li>



<li>The Power Weapon Pad in the Cave is now set to always spawn the M41 SPNKr.</li>



<li>The Powerup Pad at Bridge has been moved to High Cargo and will now always spawn Active Camo.</li>



<li>The Powerup Pad at Watchtower will now always spawn Active Camo.</li>



<li>Equipment Pads that spawn the Repair Field have been moved to the top of each base.</li>



<li>Mounted Scrap Cannons have been added to Bridge and Watchtower.</li>



<li>Added a Vehicle Pad that spawns the Gungoose at both bases.</li>



<li>Added a Vehicle Pad that spawns the Chopper at both bases.</li>



<li>Added two neutral Vehicle Pads that spawn Razorbacks at the middle of the map (near Crash Site and Low Cargo).</li>



<li>Smoothed out the natural geometry at Eagle Base’s ramp in front of the Gungoose Vehicle Pad for improved player and vehicle traversal.</li>

<li>The added geometry from the BTB Heavies variant of Highpower has been added to the standard Highpower map. This includes the added cover at Cliffs, as well as the extra cover behind Cobra Base.</li>



<li>The Total Control Zone at Lakeside (near Eagle Base) has been moved into the road at Cliffs for both the Alpha and Delta Total Control Zone Sets.</li>



<li>The Melee-class Power Weapon Pad at Cliffs near Eagle Team base has been moved to the nearby landing pad and has been changed to a Sniper-class Power Weapon Pad that spawns the S7 Sniper.</li>



<li>A new Sniper-class Power Weapon Pad has been added near Rocky Pass for Cobra Team that spawns the S7 Sniper.</li>



<li>The Sniper-class Power Weapon Pad at High Power has been set to always spawn a Skewer.</li>



<li>The Launcher-class Power Weapon Pad at Center Pit will now always spawn the Cindershot.</li>



<li>The Sniper-class Weapon Racks at the landing pad behind both bases will now always spawn the Stalker Rifle.</li>



<li>The Launcher-class Weapon Racks at the top of each base will now always spawn the Hydra.</li>



<li>The Launcher-class Weapon Racks at Overlook and Rocky Pass will now always spawn the Ravager.</li>



<li>The Grenade Pad in the “sneaky-cliff-wall” at Cave Pit is now the only one on the map to spawn Dynamo Grenades.</li>



<li>A Mounted Chaingun Turret has been added to the top of each base and in front of each base.</li>



<li>The Vehicle Pads on the landing pad at each base now will spawn the Banshee.</li>



<li>Vehicle Pads have been added to the top of each base that can spawn either the Banshee or the Wasp. The vehicle chosen at the start of the game will remain the same for the duration of the match. Both bases will have the same vehicle to ensure balanced gameplay.</li>



<li>A Vehicle Pad that spawns the Ghost is now present at both bases.</li>



<li>The Equipment Pad that spawned the Grappleshot in Cave has been replaced with a Powerup Pad that will always spawn Active Camo.</li>



<li>An Equipment Pad that spawns the Repulsor has been added to the Ridgeline area. This now means both teams will have access to a Repulsor.</li>
</ul>



BREAKER

<li>Replaced the Sniper-class Power Weapon Pads at each base with Launcher-class Power Weapon Pads that spawn Cindershots.</li>



<li>A neutral Sniper-class Power Weapon Pad that spawns the S7 Sniper Rifle has been added to Blast House.</li>



<li>A neutral Sniper-class Weapon Rack that spawns the Shock Rifle has been added to “Flappy Flap” (at mid near Launch Ramps).</li>



<li>Eagle Team’s right-side Sniper-class Weapon Rack has been moved closer to initial spawn and will now always spawn the Stalker Rifle.</li>



<li>Cobra Team’s Sniper-class Weapon Rack will now always spawn the Stalker Rifle.</li>



<li>The Launcher-class Weapon Racks below the Blast House kinetic launchers are set to spawn Ravagers.</li>



<li>The Powerup Pads have been moved to each side of the Blast House and will now always spawn Active Camo.</li>
</ul>



BREAKER (ONE FLAG CTF)

This new Breaker map variant includes all the changes featured in the standard Breaker map, with the exception of the details listed below:

<li>The Defender’s Flag has been set up at the top doorway of Frigate Base, next to where the Drop Wall Equipment Pad resides.</li>



<li>The Attacker’s Flag Capture Point has been added to the top center of the Turbine Base, above the blue-liquid death pit.</li>



<li>Defender Team Respawn Points at Frigate base have been moved back to increase likelihood of Attacker Flag pulls.</li>



<li>New platform geometry has been added to the front of Frigate Base near the Flag to add a new route of attack and escape.</li>



<li>New cover/ramp geometry has been added at Frigate Blast Deck as an entry point to the front side of Frigate Base.</li>



<li>A new static crate has been added to the right side of Frigate Base as a route for players to use.</li>



<li>Removed the Launcher-class Power Weapon Pad from Frigate Base (Defenders).</li>



<li>The Powerup Pad at Frigate Base (Defense) now spawns the Overshield.</li>



<li>Removed the Warthog Vehicle Pad inside Frigate Base (Defenders).</li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TENRAI IV OPERATION PASS</h2>



From June 4 to July 2, Operation: Tenrai IV will be active and you’ll be able to work your way through its 20-tier Operation Pass which contains a new themed armor set along with a new visor, emblem, and additional Spartan Points to spend in The Exchange.

Following on from community feedback we have received, we are pleased to confirm that we are adding the 500 XP Daily Challenge back into Halo Infinite.



The XP Daily challenge was removed previously at the start of Operation: Banished Honor and replaced with a challenge that rewarded 250 Spartan Points. Starting in Tenrai IV, the challenge deck will be updated to have two daily challenges. The first challenge will be SP, the second challenge will be XP:

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MATCH COMPOSER</h2>



Along with Tenrai IV comes the Match Composer feature for Halo Infinite.



The Match Composer is intended to give players more control over what they would like to play when they hop into online matchmaking—something that players of Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be familiar with.



In Halo Infinite, the Match Composer will enable players to choose which game modes they would (or would not) like to participate in, making it easier for you to have a good time playing exactly what you want to play.



From the Multiplayer screen, players will be met with a list of playlists as usual, and upon selecting a specific playlist they will be able to choose which game modes they want to play based on what is available in the playlist by selecting or deselecting according to your preference.

For example: If you want to jump into some Free For All, you will find that there are ten game modes available within that playlist. By default, all of them are selected, but the Match Composer will allow you to deselect any that you may not want to play. Of course, in the event that you make selections which may result in longer matchmaking queue wait times, a message will appear to inform you of this.



Alongside the release of this update, the following playlists now utilize the Match Composer feature to help curate your multiplayer experience:

<li>Team Doubles (2v2) – Assorted games for teams of two.</li>

<li>Big Team Battle (12v12) – Curate between standard BTB, BTB Heavies, and a variety of other BTB modes.</li>



<li>Squad Battle (8v8) – Your traditional fix for large-scale warfare, featuring Team Slayer and objective gametypes.</li>

Juggernaut has returned to Halo Infinite!



This game mode finds its origins all the way back in Halo: Combat Evolved (originally as a variant of Oddball), but later came to prominence in Halo 2 where it became its own mode with additional variations.



One player is selected by the game to be the Juggernaut, which is good news for those of you who like getting certain advantages (which have historically included overshields, active camo, increased speed and damage, and so on)… but also bad news because everybody else is trying to kill you—and whoever succeeds in doing so becomes the new Juggernaut.



In Halo Infinite, the Juggernaut will receive a substantial buff to their shields and damage resistance, as well as a speed boost, while being equipped with a Gravity Hammer and Quantum Translocator.



Another notable variant of the Juggernaut mode since Halo 2 is Ninjanaut, where one player is equipped with active camouflage. In Halo Infinite’s take on the mode, your active camo is finite but can be reset each time you get a kill, and you’ll have the additional aid of unlimited Plasma Grenades and a Grappleshot. But beware, as your enemies are outfitted with Threat Seekers to find you, so you will need to become practiced in the art of a silent, stealthy kill.

IT’S THE JUGGERNAUT, SPARTAN



Or maybe the Ninjanaut. The frenetic free-for-all mode returns, alongside a variant with an invisible Juggernaut. 



If you are chosen to be the Juggernaut, you’ll enjoy a substantial shield buff, some damage resistance, and a speed boost. You’ll be equipped with a Gravity Hammer and the Quantum Translocator allowing you to take on the rest of the lobby with the grace of, well, a Juggernaut. But be careful—if you get killed, the person who took you down becomes the new Juggernaut.

If you find yourself in a Ninjanaut lobby, watch your six. In this version, the Juggernaut is a ninja and is equipped with active camouflage. Over time, this camo will tick down but you can reset the amount of time left on your camo by getting a kill. As the Ninjanaut, you can execute sneaky plays with your wits, bottomless plasma grenades, and a Grappleshot. But the rest of the lobby has Threat Seekers to, well, seek you out. As with Juggernaut, killing the Ninjanaut will grant you a prompt promotion to the new Ninjanaut, so be ready to evolve your strategy on the fly.

There is a single Juggernaut per game and, as expected, the Juggernaut is stronger than Spartans.

As the name implies, this is Juggernaut but you’re invisible. As the Ninjanaut, you’ll have active camouflage from the start but it will decrease overtime. Each kill you get will reset the cloak duration, so as long as you’re racking up the kills you’ll stay invisible to the naked eye. The Ninjanaut also has:

Other players will be searching for the Ninjanaut with their Threat Seekers, so stay nimble! And if you out-play the Ninjanaut, you will become the next one so take advantage of the newly granted active camo.

Tenrai IV Playlist

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">BACKGROUND:</h3>



During Pool Play at the HCS London Major, Complexity were onstage preparing for their match against FaZe Clan when during routine equipment checks, the administration was lead to discover that Spartan’s SSD was not the official tournament SSD. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the software on the SSD was not provided by the administration and furthermore contained new, unapproved software as well as other changes to the existing software in an effort to increase the performance of the PC. No software of any other nature was discovered. When talked to, Spartan cooperated with the investigation.



6/5/2024 Update: After further investigation, it was later discovered that the SSD device itself was part of a separate batch owned by the administration. The unapproved software was still loaded onto the SSD as described above with a flash drive. The ownership of the SSD was never weighed in the determination of the ruling. The Administrative team will be doing an audit of the existing fleet of hardware and removing any anomalous drives which are inconsistent with the rest of the other SSDs to ensure this doesn’t happen again.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">RULING:</h3>



Competitive integrity and fairness are paramount to the HCS, our partnered teams, players, and community. Due to the tampering of official league provided equipment and the nature of gaining a competitive advantage in the tournament as a result of tampering, Complexity have been disqualified from the tournament.

Competing fairly and to the best of your ability is important towards fostering a healthy competitive environment, and the Administration is committed to ensuring the facilitation of fair competition throughout the duration of the Program and beyond. Any form of cheating, whether intentional or not, by any Participant is strictly prohibited. Participants are required and expected to maintain cognizance of these Official Rules and any form of cheating or violation of these rules, or the spirit of these rules, either intentionally or unintentionally, will result in penalties in accordance with the Code of Conduct. All Participants are prohibited from influencing or manipulating a Game or Match so that the outcome is determined by anything other than fair and reasonable play….

Per the HCS 2024 Program Handbook v2.0 and the HCS Major London 2024 Official Rules v1.3, the HCS administration has disqualified Complexity from the HCS London Major. Further rulings against Spartan will be determined after the tournament.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">TOURNAMENT UPDATE:</h3>



Due to the disqualification of Complexity, the following tournament rulings have been made:



<ol>
<li>Complexity receive an automatic last place in Pool C.</li>



<li>The match that took place between FaZe and Complexity will be ruled as a 3-0 map count in favor of FaZe, their match record is 2-0 headed into Day 2.</li>



<li>The match that did not take place between Cloud9 and Complexity will be ruled as a 3-0 map count in favor of Cloud9, their match record is 1-1 headed into Day 2.</li>



<li>There will still only be 1 team from the Open Bracket that will qualify for Pool C following the conclusion of Open Bracket Play. They will receive and automatic match victory over Complexity with a map count of 3-0, and will enter Pool Play with a record of 1-0.</li>



<li>Complexity will receive 0 HCS points and 0 prizing. </li>
</ol>

HCS London Major 2024 Competitive Ruling

Tenrai IV kicks off next Tuesday, June 4, and Halo Infinite will receive an update alongside the launch of this latest Operation. Players can expect a few fixes under the hood, but the most exciting component of this next content update will be the release of the long-awaited Match Composer functionality for matchmaking!



Today, we want to give you a quick preview of what you can expect and how this feature will offer more flexibility to play the experiences you enjoy the most.



So, what exactly is a “Match Composer?”



This new matchmaking functionality allows players to choose a high-level playlist based on criteria like team composition (4v4, BTB, FFA, etc.) and then choose the specific modes you prefer to play (Husky Raid, Team Slayer, Team Snipers, etc.).

Originally, players would just be able to select “Team Arena” which could end up putting you into any of the supported game modes within that playlist. Now, you’ll be able to “compose” your match experience from the start and only search and play the specific types of experiences you want to play within a playlist. You can compose parameters and search one playlist at a time.



Not only does this new feature give you greater control to play what you want to play, it also allows us to take niche offerings that were previously relegated to limited-time rotationals and make them into permanent Match Composer mode choices (for example, Team Snipers is available to play all the time now within the Quick Play playlist). 



At face value, Halo Infinite’s matchmaking menus will look quite similar—you’ll be presented with a list of available playlists and if you select a Match Composer-enabled playlist (denoted in the description), the next screen will then offer a list of all the available modes to choose from. By default, every mode option will be enabled to help expedite searching and get players into matches quickly, but players can select and deselect as few or as many as desired.



One important note here is that selecting fewer options adds more constraints to the matchmaking search parameters and can result in longer wait times depending on current online population and general popularity of the modes you’ve chosen. If you aren’t picky and just want to jump into a 4v4 match as fast as possible, leave everything selected. If you only want to play Team Snipers but not that many other players online have opted into Team Snipers, it may take longer to match into a game.

Most, but not all, of Halo Infinite’s playlists will support Match Composer functionality when this feature is released next Tuesday. In general, most Social playlists will have Match Composer options but Ranked will not. Here’s the list of Social Match Composer enabled playlists that will be available upon release: TENRAI IV [FFA] [8 Players] Enjoy Tenrai-themed content including new community modes as well as the new original community map, Hanami.



This is the new Tenrai Operation themed featured playlist, available for a limited time.



QUICK PLAY [4v4] All things 4v4 from Team Slayer to Husky Raid. Curate your preferred 4v4 experiences here.



This playlist will include the majority of Halo Infinite’s 4v4 social game modes and offers numerous different choices ranging from Mini Slayer to CTF to Dodgeball and more. Players who only want to play on community-created Forge maps can select the “Community” version of a specific mode (i.e. “Community Slayer”).



TEAM DOUBLES [2v2] Assorted games for teams of two. Work together or die alone; teamwork is critical here.



RUMBLE PIT [FFA] [8 Players] A mix of Slayer variants and other Free for All modes. You’re on your own, Spartan.



INFECTION [FFA] [12 Players] Infect the enemy team or survive until the time limit. Players killed by Infected become Infected.



BIG TEAM BATTLE [12v12] For those who prefer a bigger battle. Here you can curate between standard BTB, BTB Heavies, and other variety BTB modes.



Mode selection options include entries from the original BTB Core, BTB Social, and BTB Heavies playlists such as Total Control, Team Snipers, Stockpile, Fiesta Slayer, and more.



SQUAD BATTLE [8v8] Your traditional fix for large scale warfare. Curate your experience with Team Slayer and objective gametypes.



Mode choices include CTF, King of the Hill, Slayer, One Flag CTF, Land Grab, and Total Control.



FIREFIGHT LEGENDARY [PVE] [LEGENDARY] [4 Players] Take the fight to the Banished. Curate your Firefight experience with different modes on Legendary difficulty.



FIREFIGHT HEROIC [PVE] [HEROIC] [4 Players] Take the fight to the Banished. Curate your Firefight experience with different modes on Heroic difficulty.



FIREFIGHT NORMAL [PVE] [NORMAL] [4 Players] Take the fight to the Banished. Curate your Firefight experience with different modes on Normal difficulty.



Each of the three Firefight playlists offer the same options (regular Firefight: KotH,  Gruntpocalypse, or Gruntpocalypse Fiesta) but are differentiated at the playlist level based on difficulty choice.

To ensure Halo Infinite’s Ranked experience maintains the highest level of competitive integrity, these playlists will not support Match Composing. However, the consolidation that the Match Composer offers us on the Social side means we’re able to expand the core Ranked playlists with this release to include: RANKED ARENA [4v4] – Bandit Evo loadout. Motion tracker disabled. Team Slayer, CTF, Oddball, KOTH, and Strongholds gametypes. Face off against other Spartans to earn or progress your rank.



RANKED SLAYER [4v4] – Bandit Evo loadout. Friendly fire enabled. Motion tracker disabled. Slay the enemy team.



RANKED DOUBLES [2v2] – Slay the enemy team. Bandit Evo loadout. Motion tracker disabled.



And, “RANKED TACTICAL” will be available as a Ranked Rotational offering beginning next week.

Match Composer Preview | Halo Infinite

With the <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/quadrant2024">HCS London Major hosted by Quadrant</a> this weekend, we’re about to conclude the first split of the 2024 HCS Season for Halo Infinite and it’s been one heck of a start so far. With a new starting weapon in the <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/ranked-update-season-5-2">Bandit EVO</a>, the competition is as exciting as ever!



In Year 3 of the HCS, we’ve continued to use historical data to improve the format for our Major tournaments. This data helps determine how many teams from each region qualify for pool play and what their seeds are. This year, we are also making some adjustments to the qualifying format for the Halo World Championship. For HaloWC, we want to ensure that each region has a fair opportunity to qualify, but also aligns with the data that supports our format changes this season.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are the Last Chance Qualifiers?</h2>



The Last Chance Qualifiers are a set of 4 single elimination best-of-5 playoff matches. The winners of these 4 matches will earn their spots as the final 4 teams in the Halo World Championship. Once the 8 teams participating in the Last Chance Qualifiers have been determined and seeded, the matches will be played on LAN and broadcasted Saturday night at the SLC Major.



The format is simple – win the match and qualify for the Halo World Championship. Here is how the 8 teams participating in the Last Chance Qualifiers will be determined:

<li>Pool Play teams that have not qualified for HaloWC
<ul>
<li>Seeding tiebreakers will be highest placement at the SLC Major. If placement does not settle tiebreaker, next will be total points if teams are from the same region, or global points if teams are from different regions.</li>
</ul>

<li>Next highest Open Bracket placing teams
<ul>
<li>Seeding tiebreakers will be highest placement at the SLC Major. If placement does not settle tiebreaker, next will be total points if teams are from the same region, or global points if teams are from different regions.</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li>All pool play teams will be seeded higher than teams qualifying from Open Bracket.</li>

The Forge Falcons’ exciting PvE experience, Survive the Undead, arrives in the Combat Workshop today! For the next two weeks, you’ll be able to jump in and put your survival skills to the test in this 100% community created mode.

Survive the Undead meshes the Halo Firefight experience with the fan-favorite COD Zombies mode resulting in fast paced, intense, and sometimes spooky gameplay. As we learned in Reach, the objective is to “survive,” and you want to do that by any means necessary. Earn points to buy upgrades, grab perks, or chance it all on a mystery box. Maybe it’ll help, maybe it’ll set you back—the thrill is in the risk!



As a note, while waiting to respawn, make sure to wiggle your sticks to keep from getting kicked for inactivity.



The Combat Workshop is your one-shop stop to check out work-in-progress maps, modes, and other new experiences. This playlist allows us to test out new modes (BTB Heavies), new features (new networking model), and get feedback at scale before taking that information back and iterating on it. From there, we can address issues and community feedback to get things ready for primetime matchmaking.
