Halo: Campaign Evolved

Earlier this month we pulled the curtain back on <a href="Campaign Evolved" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Halo: Campaign Evolved</a> and shared its imminent release date of July 28 – or July 23 if you pre-order the Premium Edition and get up to 5 days of Early Access. While we have been busy sharing <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news?category=games" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lots of news</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4rAVQs2aJOI?feature=share" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">highlighting features like split-screen and online co-op</a>, and creating <a href="https://youtu.be/6sUil_Tj_OQ" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fun videos with Sgt Johnson</a>, we know you all still have plenty of questions. 



Today, we’re setting aside some time to answer some of the most common ones we’ve seen online and in our mentions. We plan on doing this again, so please keep sending your questions our way and we’ll try to answer them in our next Q&A!

Q: Do you need to find Skulls in-game before you can apply them? A: Yes! In order to apply Skull modifiers in-game, you will need to find and collect them. There are 3 Skulls hidden on each mission in Halo: Campaign Evolved and another 3 that are granted upon unlocking Campaign Remix.



Q: Will there be any additional Collector’s Editions up for sale? A: We are humbled and blown away by the overwhelming excitement for the Collector’s Edition. This was always intended to be a limited edition offering but safe to say demand has far exceeded what was projected and produced. The Collector’s Edition is officially sold out and there are no plans for a restock. With regards to reports of reselling – Our retail partners have audited orders and found no evidence of widespread scalping. Only a tiny percentage of purchases showed suspicious behavior, and in those cases, orders were refunded and units were put back up for sale. As a reminder, some customers may choose to cancel their pre-order, so there’s always a chance a few more units trickle in over the coming weeks. If you’re a fan of awesome Halo statues, we are working with partners to release even more Halo: Campaign Evolved collectibles throughout the year to help celebrate 25 years of Halo. Q: Are there any XBOX account requirements to play the game solo or co-op? A: Yes, just as you do today for Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite to ensure smooth cross-platform progression, to play Halo: Campaign Evolved you will need a Microsoft account and XBOX Gamertag, regardless of the platform(s) you play on. This enables both cross-platform play and cross-platform progression. A few additional items to keep in mind for launch day include:



<ul>
<li>XBOX Series X|S: If you’re playing split-screen on an XBOX console, the second player will also need a unique Microsoft account. If you want to play online co-op, you will need an active XBOX Game Pass subscription.</li>



<li>PlayStation 5®: If you’re playing split-screen on PlayStation 5®, both accounts will need to have PlayStation Plus and be linked to a Microsoft account. Having these active PlayStation Plus subscriptions will also provide access to online co-op play. </li>



<li>Steam: If you’re playing via Steam, you will need to link to a Microsoft account. </li>
</ul>



If you’d like to jump in immediately on July 28, we recommend having an XBOX account created beforehand to help save time once you put the disc in the tray. 



Q: Will there be a Photo Mode or Theater Mode? A: The Blind Skull, which hides your HUD UI, weapons, and hands from view, combined with the Acrophobia Skull, which allows you to fly, should be able to provide some incredible screenshot opportunities, but there are no current plans for a Photo Mode or Theater Mode in Halo: Campaign Evolved.



Q: Can I turn off hitmarkers in-game? A: Yes. We like to start by providing as much feedback to players as possible, so this is enabled by default, but you should feel free to turn this feature off via the in-game settings.



Q: Can I wear the Mark IV armor in the base 10 missions? A: We love the Mark IV armor too, so we understand the desire to wear it everywhere, but it will only be available in the 3 new bonus missions.



Q: How does the new 3rd Person mode work? Is it possible to play this way right from the start? A: The ability to play in 3rd Person is an optional way to experience the game that can be enabled once you’ve found the “Perspective” Skull hidden in one of the game’s 13 missions. To learn more about Skulls and the new Remix feature in Halo: Campaign Evolved, <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/skulls-campaign-remix-halo-campaign-evolved" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">check out this blog!</a> 



Q: Will the Stanchion be useable in the bonus missions or in the main missions via Campaign Remix?  A: Sgt Johnson’s Stanchion, which was featured in our <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4sUx2nX5EQ" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new missions trailer</a>, is his personal weapon and not one he likes to share. As such, it will not be featured outside his personal use in the prequel missions.   



Q: If I customize my Spartan, will they show up in cutscenes with that armor?  A: To ensure that the narrative remains as faithful to the original game as possible, the personalized customization options you choose will not show up during cutscenes.



Q: Will LASO mean playing the game with truly all Skulls active? A: We’ll have a specific selection of Skulls for LASO. Similar to MCC, it won’t be all Skulls, but it will still be extremely challenging. We’ll share more about the specific LASO selection in the lead up to launch.



Q: How does the game balance enemy encounters for Co-Op? A: If you load up a Co-Op session via split-screen or online play, each mission will scale appropriately depending on how many people you have in your lobby. This will show up in a few different ways: 



<ul>
<li>Number of enemies: You may encounter a higher number of enemies, though this is largely determined by your difficulty selection.</li>



<li>Rank of enemies: Enemies have a chance to upgrade to a higher rank. The more players, and the higher the difficulty, the higher the chance they will upgrade.</li>



<li>Enemy intelligence increases: The enemy AI will avoid grenades more frequently, target and shoot at players more efficiently, and know when to fall back to gain their shields more effectively. </li>
</ul>



And, since not everyone in your Co-Op session will be at the same skill level, we’ve also introduced a new feature – Difficulty Modifiers – to help everyone enjoy their time together. Difficulty Modifiers allow each player to adjust settings for themselves, which can help them have an easier time or a more difficult challenge. These settings are: 



<ul>
<li>Damage Resistance (increase or decrease how much damage you take from enemies)</li>



<li>Shield Recharge Rate (increase or decrease how quickly your shields will begin recharging)</li>



<li>Damage Modifier (increase or decrease how much damage you deal to enemies with weapons and grenades)</li>



<li>Melee Damage Modifier (increase or decrease how much damage your melee deals to enemies)</li>



<li>Ammo (Infinite Ammo, Bottomless Clip, etc.) </li>
</ul>



So, if you have 4 players in your lobby, expect to face more Covenant resistance than if you play solo, but be sure to take advantage of Difficulty Modifiers to ensure everyone in the lobby is having a good time. Note: There are some Achievements that will not be earnable when Difficulty Modifiers are enabled for any members of your Fireteam.



Q: Can you still backpack reload?   A: We loved this button glitch in the original Halo: Combat Evolved, so we wanted to preserve its behavior with the “Stowed Reload” Skull, which allows your weapon to reload while on your back to mimic this behavior. Although it’s no longer a button glitch, its spirit continues to live on. 



Q: Will there be more content or features such as additional story DLC, Firefight, new Skulls, more customization, etc. added after launch?  A: Halo: Campaign Evolved is meant to focus on remaking the original campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved and providing three fun, new prequels missions. There are no plans to expand the game into a live service with continued content or feature additions.



Q: Will there be assassinations? A: No, there aren’t any specific assassination animations, but your traditional backsmacks will continue to provide one-hit kills while helping you avoid detection in stealthier situations. 



Q: Will there be a public demo of Halo: Campaign Evolved ahead of launch? A: There are no plans to release a demo of the game before launch. If you’re excited and want to get your hands on the game as soon as possible, you can pre-order <a href="https://aka.ms/HCEBuyNow" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the Premium Edition</a> and get up to 5 days of early access beginning July 23, 2026! 



Q: Do I need to play the original missions before I can play the three new missions?  A: You can play the prequel missions as soon as you launch the game. We want everyone to experience this new story, so we’ve decided not to gate it behind any specific tasks, actions, or paywalls. Load up the game, select the new missions, and enjoy another adventure with the Master Chief and Sgt Johnson. For brand new players, we do recommend starting with the original missions as they are designed to help onboard players with tutorials along the way.  



Q: Is it July 28th yet? A: No, but we’ll get there together!

Operation: Great Journey is landing next Tuesday, November 5, and it’s bringing a lot of great additions to Halo Infinite. Arriving just in time for the twentieth birthday of Halo 2, the Winter 2024 update will include a <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/playlist-overview-great-journey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Halo 2-inspired playlist</a> with legacy movement mechanics, Third-Person Firefight, new Forge features, and much more.



Even with those head-turning additions, potentially the most anticipated aspect of the release is the arrival of a brand-new weapon.



Let’s take a look!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MA5K AVENGER</h2>

Originally seen on the cover of Halo: Ghosts of Onyx back in 2006, wielded by Spartan-III super-soldiers, the MA5K will be joining the arsenal of weapons in Halo Infinite as the MA5K Avenger.



This fully automatic rifle stands out with its extremely high rate-of-fire, which is properly accompanied by an increased magazine size. Built by Misriah Armory for running and gunning at a short range, the Avenger also has a fast ready-up time after sprinting, rapid reload speed, and can be switched to very quickly.



All in all, the MA5K Avenger has a commanding presence in Halo Infinite’s close quarters combat dance. As we were building out the weapon, we knew it would only be natural to have it fit into the SMG role. Celebrating the game that first introduced SMGs to Halo by bringing an SMG-class weapon to Halo Infinite felt like a great fit.



Our tuning process started by examining Halo 2’s SMG, which wasn’t known as the most effective weapon unless dual-wielded, and cross-referencing it with the SMGs from Halo 3: ODST and Halo 5, which were both highly effective and positively received by players. After plenty of fun playtests and iteration, we landed on a tuning pass which feels similar to both, yet has clearly established an identity of its own as a natural inclusion into this pantheon of SMGs.



Starting next week, the MA5K Avenger will be the starting weapon in the Halo 2-inspired Delta Arena playlist, become your secondary weapon in many Firefight experiences, and start appearing on SMG-class weapon racks throughout the game.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">VK78 COMMANDO</h3>



Previously, when using the VK78 Commando at maximum spread, the bullets were trending only to the outer edges of the bloomed reticle. To give the VK78 Commando a more consistent feel, we’ve adjusted the bloom properties to allow the bullet to land anywhere within the bounds of the bloomed reticle. This is similar to the adjustment made with the MA40 AR in the Operation: Fleetcom update.



To balance out the now more accurate Commando, the bloom will reach maximum spread slightly quicker than before. 



– Increased maximum bullet spread. ㅤㅤ- Maximum error angle (high) 0.9 >> 0.95 – Adjusted Commando Rifle error angles to give it a more consistent feel. ㅤㅤ- Minimum error angle (high) 0.6 >> 0.08 – Faster bloom expansion. ㅤㅤ- Upper bound deceleration time 0.2152 >> 0.2252



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">MK50 SIDEKICK</h3>



The Mk50 Sidekick has always been one of the most effective weapons in the sandbox. We wanted to keep that consistent feeling, while also addressing feedback around it still feeling a little too effective at range. To accomplish this, we’ve adjusted the weapon’s bloom properties to incentivize scavenging while still keeping it as that reliable secondary weapon players can depend on. Similar to the VK78 Commando above, we’ve adjusted the bloom properties to prevent the bullets from favoring the reticle’s outer edge, allowing them to now land anywhere inside the reticle. To balance that increased consistency, we’ve increased its potential spread when fired rapidly.



– Increased base bullet spread. ㅤㅤ- Maximum error angle (low) 0.03 >> 0.35 ㅤㅤ- Lower bound deceleration 0.55 >> 0.56 ㅤㅤ- Upper bound deceleration 0.42 >> 0.43

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">ACTIVE CAMO</h3>



“Sneaky beaver” flag runs are a staple of Capture the Flag which provide exciting and creative gameplay experiences. With that in mind, we’ve seen players on the offensive utilize the camo flag run with extremely high efficiency.



To give the team whose flag has been taken a better fighting chance to stop a camouflaged flag runner—and to more closely match the camo behavior of previous Halo games—the camo flag runner’s Spartan will remain camouflaged, but the flag itself will be visible.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">THRUSTER</h3>



The Thruster is currently a piece of equipment that offers a high reward but takes little risk when used during combat. Its quick dash movement while simultaneously always having your weapon ready to fire was something we wanted to look at more closely.



To address this, activating Thruster will now briefly disable weapon use, similar to Halo 5’s Thruster. This should provide some counterplay potential to those battling against a Thruster user while still giving the Thruster user an advantage.

A brand-new weapon with the MA5K Avenger, new sandbox balance updates, a Halo 2-inspired playlist, Third-Person Firefight, and more all arrive next Tuesday, November 5, with the 2024 Winter Update and Operation: Great Journey.

With the launch of the <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/december-update-halo-infinite" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)">December Mid-Season Update</a>, we included the latest updates to our networking model in the <a href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/firefight-king-of-the-hill-preview" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Firefight: King of the Hill (opens in a new tab)">Firefight: King of the Hill</a> mode. 



We wanted to roll it out in this PvE experience first to have a safe testbed to see how it behaves at scale before enabling it in a PvP mode. However, after listening to player feedback and getting many requests to try this in multiplayer, we decided to expand the experiment to the Squad Battle playlist. 



That’s right, the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/squad-battle" target="_blank">Squad Battle</a> experience you know and love has been updated to run on our updated networking model for a limited time in the Combat Workshop. The Combat Workshop is your one-shop stop to check out work-in-progress maps, modes, and other new experiences. In this playlist you’ll be able to enjoy a mix of Slayer and objective modes on fan-favorite maps while we gather feedback and data about the online experience.

Since its release, Season 4: Infection has been winning over hearts and Iratus has been taking over minds. Although the reception of Season 4 has been great, there’s still plenty to do and we haven’t slowed down or lost sight of that fact. Our newest map, Dredge, is entering Halo Infinite’s lineup next week! With inspiration directly from Halo: Reach’s popular map Countdown, this forged homage is sure to make a lasting impression. When diving into the map for the first time, players can expect a new take on the scenery and refreshed gameplay flow.



Starting next Wednesday, you’ll be able to play Dredge all day long in the Dredge 24/7 playlist!

In addition to a new multiplayer map, the Halo Infinite team has really been focusing their efforts on top community requests. Let’s take a look at the feedback topics they went after!



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Improved Pelican Vehicle Drops</h3>



After cracking open the code for Pelican vehicle deliveries in Big Team Battle, we found a few different systems that used specific markers that worked together to deliver vehicles. While predictable, the outcome was not quite the same as the consistent, symmetrical vehicle drops that Halo fans typically prefer.



To bring the Pelican deliveries closer in line with those expectations, we’ve improved the system to deliver the same vehicles on both sides of the map in the same wave.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">BTB Fireteam Improvements  </h3>



In another effort to improve the BTB experience, the team also tackled a common piece of community feedback around intro cameras. Now, Big Team Battle matches will prioritize placing the members of your Fireteam in your in-game squad of four players. That means during the intro camera sequences at the start of each game, the line up shot with four Spartans will also prioritize showing members of your Fireteam.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Extermination</h3>



There are not many feelings that can match the rewarding sensation of taking down an entire enemy team and hearing Jeff Steitzer say, “Extermination.”  



With the introduction of the Elimination and Attrition game modes in Halo Infinite, there was a desire to help make that medal moment even more special by attributing it to Overkills that helped end a round. However, many of you expressed that this made it feel too tucked away and asked for it to return to all game modes—and that request was heard loud and clear.



We’re happy to say that with the launch of the August Update, the Extermination medal will be available in all multiplayer modes. We look forward to you all sharing clips of your favorite clean sweeps online!

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Death Cam Improvements</h3>



While this topic was a bit more niche, we saw the posts and comments asking for improvements in this area and the team was happy to jump on it.  



Our reasoning for going with static death cams was to help ensure a fair environment in which a team only gathered information that was earned. However, we heard the feedback around the static death cams and we went after it for this update.



Starting next week, after you’ve fallen in combat, you’ll be able to rotate your death cam to look around while spectating teammates—much like in previous titles. We expect this extra bit of freedom will encourage even better teamwork and improve communication while players wait to respawn.

Additionally, to help make sure you can spectate your teammate’s even faster, we’ve increased the speed at which you can cycle through players on your death cam. Now, with this additional layer of player agency, you should always be able to help a teammate in need.  



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Reactive Water Plane</h3>



Season 4 brought the first appearance of a placeable and scalable water object in Forge—the static water plane. Being a static object, it didn’t react to gameplay interactions such as footsteps, bullets, or explosions and was more applicable for map aesthetics. It was a big step forward for Forge, but we knew that having a reactive water plane would be the next big leap.



Next week, you’ll be able to take that leap with the addition of a scalable water plane in Forge. This new water object will react to players, vehicles, and projectiles just like it would on any of our dev maps!

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Forge QoL Updates & Bug Fixes</h3>



In addition to the introduction of the reactive water plane, Forge will also get some extra love and polish in this update. A quality-of-life (QoL) update for our Forge menu folders means that creators will be able to expand and collapse all the folders in each menu with a single action. Beyond that, the team went after numerous community-reported issues for the August Update.

Much like all our updates, the focus of the August Update was to continue addressing top community requests across the board. In addition to the few topics we’ve covered above, we’ll have even more fixes for top community reported issues such as Personal AI voice resetting, bringing slide back to parity with its Season 3 behavior, multiple Observer and Theater bugs, and stability improvements for all platforms.

August Update Preview

As a Spartan, you are built for war. You are the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy—and in Season 4 you’ll be getting your hands on some new equipment to make use of on the battlefield.



Let’s see what the Halo Infinite sandbox will look like when you go hands on with Season 4: Infection on June 20!



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quantum Translocator</h2>



Since Halo: CE, teleporters have been a staple of Halo gameplay. With our newest addition to Power Equipment in the form of the Quantum Translocator, players can take that staple and utilize it in all-new ways. Designed to have as much impact as an Overshield or Active Camo, while still requiring deliberate set-ups and proper execution, the Quantum Translocator will appear on map as Power Equipment.



How does the Quantum Translocator work?



Once secured, the first button press activates the Quantum Translocator and creates a slipspace thread at that location. After repositioning around the map, the second use of the QT will teleport the player back to that original thread location. However, upon teleporting, a new thread is created at the location the player just teleported from and the thread they just teleported to (the original thread) will disappear.



Each subsequent use will teleport the player and update the destination slipspace thread until the QT time has expired. Be mindful of when and where you use it though, as there’s a cooldown between uses – meaning you can’t spam it and you may even end up in a situation from which you might not escape.

Its potential for playmaking through planning and movement is truly what sets this equipment apart from the rest. If you’re a player that prides themselves on thinking two or three steps ahead of your enemy, then you’ll love how the Quantum Translocator allows you to outplay your opponents.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Threat Seeker</h2>



The next piece of equipment landing in Season 4 is the Threat Seeker. This equipment focuses on skilled, well-timed use in order to gather information about an enemy’s location.



It’s different from the Threat Sensor in that it only sends out one pulse, requires the opponents to be within its line-of-sight (meaning it will not reveal enemies around corners or through walls), and the equipment’s projectile can bounce in order to reward accuracy by allowing for unique and clever shots. If an opponent is within its radius and direct line-of-sight when it pulses, they will be revealed for the same duration as a player’s shield recharge timer.

Ultimately, the brand-new Threat Seeker requires it to be well-placed and well-timed to benefit your team. We look forward to watching how you all use this equipment to gather information, make smart plays, and win matches.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Balance Update</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Threat Sensor</h4>



With Season 4 and the launch of the Threat Seeker, we wanted to make some adjustments to the Threat Sensor to ensure both equipment items had their own unique playstyles.



The goal of these changes was to create more location-based marking, giving more permanence and coverage to the sensor by increasing its duration and sensing radius. The time each target is revealed was decreased to give more focus on sensing threats within the radius of the sensor while active.



Here are the exact balance changes to the Threat Sensor:  



<ul><li>Ping Frequency: 2.8 > 1.8 seconds</li><li>Sensor Radius: 3.1wu -> 4.25wu</li><li>Sensor Duration: 6.5 -> 15 seconds</li><li>Reveal Duration (how long a target stays revealed): 2.5 -> 0.75 seconds</li></ul>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Legacy Zoom Toggle</h4>



In addition to the upcoming Equipment additions and tuning update, Season 4 will also be bringing in a new quality-of-life update based on community feedback – the legacy zoom toggle.



This new setting allows players to choose how their zoom state behaves on a weapon with two zoom states when switching between their weapons. With this new setting set to its legacy option, players that are 10x scoped in (double-zoomed) on their S7 Sniper can exit their scope by switching weapons, return to their S7 Sniper, and then zoom in with the rifle back at 5x (single-zoomed) rather than having it default back to 10x.

Forge will be getting a slew of new updates when Season 4: Infection lands on June 20. Ranging from placeable water to beautiful new Forerunner objects and brand-new mode logic, Forge’s ability to create new experiences is only getting better. These additions, along with some quality-of-life updates and bug fixes, mean there’s never been a better time to start building.



There’s a lot to cover with this update, so let’s dive right into it!



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">New Objects</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Static Water Plane </h3>



For the first time in Halo’s history, Forge will be receiving a placeable and scalable water object. This static water plane, which is meant to help Forgers art up their creations, will provide an entirely new way to add detail and character to every map.





Beyond Season 4, we plan on continuing to expand Forge’s water objects with a dynamic volume as well.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Forerunner Object Palette Additions</h3>



The visually stunning Forerunner object palette will be getting even more pieces with Season 4. A plethora of new objects and decals – of varying shapes and use cases – will be available for Forgers to use however they see fit. Whether you want to build structures that would reflect the power of the Forerunner ecumene at its peak or create fun-filled custom games, these beautiful objects will now be in your hands in short order.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Universal Blocker Object</h3>



We currently have very specific types of blocker objects such as Player Blockers, Projectile Blockers, Vehicle Blockers, One Way Blockers, and Team Blockers in Halo Infinite. While this granularity has been extremely valuable, players have had to use multiple blocker objects to smooth out surfaces or add containment on their maps. With Season 4, we’ll be adding a new set of Universal Blockers which will block Players, Vehicles, and Projectiles. This new object type should help speed up a map’s polish phase while also reducing the budget overhead in those situations.  



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MINIGAME MODE</h2>



Minigame, a brand-new game mode in Halo Infinite, will allow creators to build modes from scratch. Much like Halo 5’s Minigame mode, this mode contains no underlying game logic and gives Forgers complete control of making the mode they desire.  



Along with Minigame’s release, we are excited to be introducing Generic Game Mode Objects to Forge. These objects are decoupled from any mode logic, meaning players will be able to place and script experiences without being tied to a particular mode. Want to capture a hill in a CTF game? Want to gain vampire traits whenever you hit someone with an Oddball in a Slayer match? Want to score points for hurling a ball through an Area Monitor in Last Spartan Standing? We’ve got you covered.



The three objects you’ll have access to in Season 4 are:

To complement the new mode and Forge objects, scripting via Node Graph will receive a few quality-of-life nodes to make common scripting tasks a little easier. Many of these nodes were requested by members of the Forge community and we were happy to get them included with the launch of Minigame.



In addition to the ~25 nodes associated with the Generic Game Mode objects, here are the new quality of life nodes being added to Node Graph:



<ul><li>“Get Object By Label” – Make Object Lists without using Object References </li><li>“Get Is Game Mode” – Run logic only in certain game modes </li><li>“Increment Number Variable” – An easier way to Get, Add, and Set advanced number variables </li><li>“Toggle Boolean Variable” – An easer way to Get, Branch, and Set advanced boolean variables </li><li>“Boolean NOT” – Negate a boolean variable.  By popular demand. </li><li>“Global Custom Event, Async” – Run custom events asynchronously </li><li>“Stopwatch” nodes – the ability to create, start, pause, and reset timers from any point in script. Stopwatches will be able to trigger other scripts based on how much time has elapsed.</li></ul>

All of these additions combined mean that when Season 4 launches, Forge will be able to build entirely new modes that combine multiple mode objectives into a single cohesive and entirely unique experience.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Budget Improvements</h2>



We’ve also heard the community feedback about wanting to have the various aspects of a map’s budget communicated effectively. We want to ensure creators can take full advantage of each system’s budget, understand it more clearly, and ultimately maximize Forge’s potential.

The Run Time Budget, shown in Forge Play mode, will switch to showing the runtime budget that is the fullest at any given moment. When runtime budgets are exceeded, the engine stops creating more instances of that type of entity.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">VFX Improvements</h2>



As hinted at in our recent <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://youtu.be/7QNHxDg0c9A?list=PLn5QvCoiY3w7t84T_MFkGl8qvYI_q148-" target="_blank">Spartan Chatter episode</a> with Forge Lead Designer, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://twitter.com/MichaelSchorr" target="_blank">Michael Schorr</a>, the VFX system will also see improvements.



In Season 4, VFX objects—such as placeable fires and explosions—will be able to be scaled to your desired size. These VFX objects are also getting two high-requested toggles to help ensure Forgers can use them in various ways. The new Damage and Audio output options for these VFX objects mean that they don’t always need to deal damage or play sound effects, that can now be determined directly by the map maker themselves.





<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quality of Life Updates</h2>



We’ve also been working hard to bring additional quality of life (QoL) updates to your existing workflows. One update that will help players art up their maps even faster is that material changes will now affect all objects within a prefab. Previously, only the parent of the prefab would have its material changed, but now this bulk change should help convert a prefab into the desired look even faster.



Another QoL improvement is tied to the asset management side of Forge. Now, when saving a new version of a Forge map in the pause menu, players will be able to add a custom note for that version. This is extremely helpful for documenting changes made during a Forge session, especially when looking at a map’s version history. We expect this to help with personal projects as well as larger group efforts that have multiple collaborators.



Beyond these core additions, improvements, and quality of life updates though, there will also be many bug fixes coming with Season 4. Issues reported to the team via <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://aka.ms/HaloSupport" target="_blank">the Halo Support site</a> are shared directly with the Forge team and prioritized based on severity and frequency. If you run into any issues, be sure to submit a ticket so that the team can investigate appropriately.

Forge Update Overview | Season 4

Season 4: Infection is landing on June 20 and will be bringing with it some incredible content, features, and quality of life fixes. One of the most notable additions coming with this season is Career Rank—an all-new progression system in Halo Infinite.



Today, we’ll be sharing a first look at Career Rank, how you progress through the system, and more. Let’s dive in!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">OVERVIEW</h2>



Career Rank will provide players with an opportunity to advance through a larger progression system that reflects their time in Halo Infinite. Similar to the progression systems in Halo: Reach and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, each level will have military-style ranks with unique names and corresponding icons.

To make progress through these new ranks, all you have to do is play. Whether you’re jumping into your favorite playlist solo or squadding up with your friends, every completed matchmaking game carries you forward.



Additionally, Career Rank utilizes performance-based progression taken directly from your Personal Score in each match. The better you play, the faster you’ll rank up.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PROGRESSION</h2>



As we alluded to above, Career Rank will likely feel most like MCC’s progression system. “Tiers” such as Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc. are the largest bucket, which are all broken into smaller military-style “Ranks” such as Cadet or General. Then, within each of those Ranks, you will move in three smaller increments called “Grades.”

Example 1: If you are a Bronze Private Grade 1, you’d work through Bronze Private Grade 2 and Bronze Private Grade 3 in order to achieve Bronze Lance Corporal Grade 1.



Example 2: If you are a Platinum General Grade 3, your next advancement would bring you to the next Tier as a Diamond Cadet Grade 1.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PRESENTATION</h2>



Once you start working your way up the ranks, you’ll also likely want to start showing off your level. Fortunately, there will be plenty of ways to see your rank (and those of other players).



A few of the notable places where you can see your accomplishments:



<ul><li>During the match intro. When the camera pans to a Spartan, you will now see a banner that displays their Career Rank.</li><li>Every individual player’s Profile will include their Career Rank. </li><li>Inspecting a player in the Post-Game Carnage Report (PGCR). </li><li>In general, in most places where you see a player’s full nameplate, a banner with their Career Rank will also be displayed.</li></ul>

Are Career Rank levels gated by a CSR skill rank similar to Halo 3?



No, there are no skill requirements in Halo Infinite’s Career Rank progression system.



Will this include my previous game history?



No, Career Rank will begin tracking your Halo Infinite progression when it lands on June 20.



Will I be able to rank up in Custom Games, Forge, or Academy?



No, Career Rank progression will be earned via Personal Score in multiplayer matchmaking.



Will Double XP Boosts work towards Career Rank progression? 



No, Double XP Boosts are meant to help players advance through their Battle Passes via Match XP.



Will I earn customization content from leveling up in Career Rank?



Yes, for select ranks there are corresponding nameplates as well as armor, weapon, and vehicle emblems that you can sport in-game on your Spartan and gear.



Is Career Rank tied to a Battle Pass?



No, Career Rank progression is separate from the Battle Pass system and is entirely free.



Will Career Rank impact matchmaking in any way?



No, Career Rank will not impact what matches or opponents you play in matchmaking.



Will Career Rank ever reset with Seasons?



No, Career Rank will not reset with Seasons. It is meant to track your overall progress in Halo Infinite.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Super Fiesta</h3>



The party is just getting started. The fan-favorite mode from Halo 5 will make its explosive return with this update as campaign’s unique weapon variants and fully upgraded Equipment enter the Arena.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Ranked King of the Hill</h3>



Based on player feedback, the Hill will now spawn-in faster at the start of the match and no longer have a “wind-up” time when a player initially enters it.



Developer Note:



To help facilitate more meaningful choices at the beginning of a King of the Hill match we decided to reduce the timer for the Initial Hill. This now requires teams to be more thoughtful in establishing their starting strategies as teams now have to decide between scavenging weapons and equipment and scoring points in the Hill. 



Based on feedback, we felt there was an opportunity to make the decision to hop in and out of a Hill more impactful. With base settings, players engaging in this behavior weren’t giving up enough as they could hop out of the hill without losing it if they returned quickly enough. This could also lead to some ambiguity around Hill ownership. This change should make the state of the Hill clearer for players.



<ul><li>The initial hill spawn has been reduced from 15 seconds to 5 seconds </li><li>The wind-up period to score has been removed</li><li>Players can score right away when stepping into the hill</li><li>This allows players to quickly score while maneuvering grenades and avoiding damage all up</li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sandbox Balance Tuning</h2>



There will also be a few updates that should help to keep the sandbox in a good state until Season 4 rolls around.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Disruptor</h3>



Overall, we wanted to reduce the complexity of this weapon—which currently Supercombines, deals damage over time (DOT), slows Spartans, chain reacts to other players, etc.—while still ensuring that it could be successful in combat. The Disruptor will have an increased rate of fire and Supercombine damage, but will no longer deal DOT and its chain reaction distance will be halved.



Developer note: 



The goal of this change was to reduce the complexity of the weapon’s behavior, focusing the utility on the Supercombine detonation and shock chaining and their ability to damage nearby players. By upping the direct damage from Supercombines and increasing the Rate of Fire (ROF), it leans the Disruptor more towards a combat pistol with a straightforward utility.



Changes: 



<ul><li>Removed Damage Over Time </li><li>Reduced chain distance from 5 World Units (wu) to 2.5 wu </li><li>Increased Supercombine damage from 60 to 70 </li><li>Increased ROF from 4.285 to 5 rounds per second </li></ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Spike Grenades</h3>



We noticed that with its current tuning, Spike Grenades were dealing high damage but not requiring as much precision as a Frag or Plasma Grenade. To address this, we’re bringing the behavior of Halo Infinite’s Spike Grenade more in line with Halo 3’s Spike Grenade by tightening the explosion cone and reducing the damage radius while increasing the number of flechettes. 



Developer note: 



The goal here was to enhance the directionality of Spikes, requiring tighter precision but better rewarding good placement. With double the flechettes, but a shorter range and tighter cone, they will cause focused, directional damage where placed. Out in the open, away from enemies, they won’t be as effective as frags. Sticking them on walls that are facing nearby enemies will inflict the highest possible damage, being lethal in one shot if a player is directly in front of (or on top of) one. 



Changes: 



<ul><li>Increased number of flechette submunitions that are released on detonation from 8 to 16 </li><li>Reduced flechette travel distance from 5 World Units (wu) to 3.5wu </li><li>Reduced Area of Effect (AOE) damage radius from 3.2 wu to 2 wu </li><li>Reduced AOE damage amount from 300 damage to 160 </li><li>Adjusted flechette bounce behavior to deviate less</li></ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Dynamo Grenades </h3>



Similar to the Spike Grenade, we wanted to make sure the Dynamo Grenade was being used more deliberately during gameplay. To do this, we’ve reduced the area of effect (AOE), reduced the chain reaction distance, and removed its movement slowdown properties while slightly increasing its damage potential. 



Developer note: 



The goal with this change is to tighten the area of effect, requiring more thoughtful placement with a higher reward for direct hits. The previous tuning would damage enemies well outside the immediate combat area, feeling overly generous and hard to escape. With higher damage per tick, but a shorter radius, Dynamos create a more potent but contained threat. Use them in corners where enemies have no escape to cause max damage, or to force enemies away from a route. 



Changes: 



<ul><li>Reduced shock Area of Effect (AOE) distance from 3.5 wu (World Units) to 2 wu </li><li>Reduced shock chain distance from 5 wu to 2 wu </li><li>Increased shock damage per burst from 18 to 21 </li><li>Removed movement stun from shock damage </li><li>Lowered arming time from 0.65 to 0.5 seconds </li><li>Reduced delay between shock damage pulses from 0.3 to 0.25 seconds </li><li>Added one additional shock damage pulse at 2.5 seconds </li></ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Shroud Screen</h3>



In Ranked Arena, the Shroud Screen will be updated to have 1 charge upon pickup.



Developer note: 



The goal of this change was to reduce the total impact Shroud Screen was having for high skilled players without changing the effectiveness of the equipment itself. With this change, players will be required to be more strategic with how they decide to use the Shroud Screen.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Forge</h2>



The May Update will bring a nice quality of life update to Forge in the form of PC screenshot uploading and numerous bug fixes. This includes improvements to the Z-fighting movement controls, Forge monitor movement speed, and more.



To improve the stability of script-heavy creations, individual script brains will be updated to have a 128 node cap. Fear not though, existing creations above that limit will still work, they will just not be able to add any additional nodes. You’ll also still be able place multiple script brains, to make sure you still have access to the full power of Halo Infinite’s scripting system.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FPS Counter on Xbox</h2>



One quality of life update that we’re excited about is the addition of an FPS Counter option on Xbox consoles. Not only does this provide great contextual information for you while playing in a match, but it’s also vital for Forgers looking to build maps that have steady performance (framerate). Allowing Forgers this extra bit of insight should help them create quality maps that feel even more smooth to slay on.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UXUI</h2>



In this update, we’re also excited to be rolling out a few highly requested improvements to our menus. Notably, we’ll be making the Customs Browser accessible from the “Custom Game” option right on the main menu. When clicking in, you’ll be able to choose between checking out what the Customs Browser has to offer and starting up your own Custom Game.



The matchmaking menu will also receive an update which will allow twice as many playlists to be visible at once—from 5 playlists to 10—before needing to scroll down. Though this change means the playlist images will be moved into each specific playlist’s details, presenting more playlist variety up front is worth it to the players. 



Last, but certainly not least, a selection of bundles from previous seasons will be able to be purchased through the customization menu. When checking out an item that was part of an eligible Bundle, players will now be presented with an option to view and purchase that Bundle from the Shop. 



Please note: previous season HCS bundles and current season bundles are not currently available for purchase.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Resolved Issues</h2>



We’ve outlined a few improvements throughout this blog, but we had several more that we wanted to call out before wrapping things up.  



Here’s a quick look at them: 



<ul><li>Various server and client stability improvements (reduced server and game crashes) </li><li>Various Theater / Observer improvements and bug fixes </li><li>Halo Infinite will no longer crash on launch when attempting to play on a PC that is below the minimum specifications. This was an unintended bug that caused the game to crash before showing the below minimum specification warning message.  <ul><li>Players can once again choose to continue past this warning message, but the expected functionality and visual experience are not guaranteed. </li><li>To learn more about PC hardware specifications, please visit our <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408731548180-PC-hardware-specs-and-drivers-for-Halo-Infinite" target="_blank">PC Hardware Specs and Drivers guide on the Halo Support site</a>. </li></ul></li><li>Addressed an issue causing Wasp “gun jamming” when playing with the Bumper Jumper control scheme </li><li>Cutscenes should no longer replay when relaunching the game </li></ul>
