TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Here is the tournament format for the ANZ HCS Regional Finals.

Open Bracket:

  • The Top 4 Open Bracket teams will advance to Pools and Bracket Play.
    • Pool Play: Teams 1-2 (Upper Bracket Top 2)
    • Elimination Round 1: Teams 3-4 (Lower Bracket Top 2)

Pool Play:

  • 2 pools of 4 teams
  • Single Round Robin, Best of 5
  • 1st place teams advance to Winner’s Round 2.
  • 2nd and 3rd place teams move on to Winner's Round 1.
  • 4th place teams move on to Elimination Round 1

Championship Bracket:

  • Double Elimination
  • 10 teams
  • Best of 5, until Grand Finals which will be best of 7.

How many team passes are available for purchase? There are 32 team passes available for purchase. These passes will sell out quickly, so be sure to purchase right away!
Do I need a full team to purchase a team pass?No, you can purchase a team pass now to secure a spot in the tournament, and provide team information after securing your pass. Upon purchasing a team pass, you will receive an email confirmation from EventBrite, with further information to follow.
When I’m ready, where do I submit my team name, roster, and other information?Within 7 days of your team pass purchase, team pass owners will be individually emailed a registration form to be completed prior to the event. Please note that all registration forms must be completed by 11:59pm AEST on Monday, August 29th, 2022. Failure to have the form completed by this time may result in removal of your team from the competition.
How do I edit my team’s roster after I submitted it?Email halo@eslgaming.com with the subject “ROSTER CHANGE ANZ REGIONAL” with the details of your roster change. This can only occur up until the roster lock.
When is the roster lock? Rosters for teams qualifying for pool play and travel coverage will be locked at 06:00 pm AEST on Monday, August 22nd, 2022. No changes will be accepted after this time.

What does a Team Pass include? A team pass includes tournament entry for 4 players and 1 coach, however, ALL participants including players and coaches MUST have a valid ticket to DreamHack Melbourne. A Team Pass only secures the team’s entry into the tournament, and not to the DreamHack Festival. Please purchase these separately HERE.
I’m coaching a team – do I need to purchase anything? So long as your team has a valid Team Pass, the only other thing you need is your own ticket to the DreamHack Melbourne festival. Please purchase these separately HERE.
Will there be a Free-For-All (FFA) competition at this event? Yes! The ANZ HCS Regional will feature a $5,000 USD FFA tournament for any and all competitors taking place on Saturday, September 3rd. Sign-ups for this tournament will take place on site at DreamHack Melbourne on Friday September 2nd and Saturday September 3rd. Be sure to make your way to Margaret Court Arena to sign up, and best of luck to those competing! Be on the lookout for specific format details in the coming weeks.
If I buy a team pass, do I have to play in the FFA? Purchasing a team pass does not mean you must play in the FFA. The FFA competition is a great opportunity to prove your individual talent in the league and meet potential teammates for 4v4 competitions in the future.
What equipment should I bring if I’m competing? A controller or a mouse and keyboard will be required to participate, along with associated USB cables for your peripherals. (Note: USB cables and peripherals will not be available, please ensure you have them!)

Batteries must be removed from controllers, so they are unable to power the controller.
Gaming Headset for non-mainstage matches.

Earphones (in-ear, “earbud” type). These must use a single 3.5mm input. Noise cancelling headsets for mainstage competition will be provided, however you will be required to bring earphones for game audio.
I don’t live in Australia or New Zealand, can I compete in this tournament? This tournament is the Australia and New Zealand Finals, and thus is only open to players who are permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand.
What’s the age limit for this tournament? The age limit to compete in this tournament is 15 years. Photo ID will be requested upon entry. Should you not have Photo ID, your school ID accompanied by your original birth certificate will be sufficient. No ID = NO ENTRY.
If I’m 14 years of age can I participate in a Qualifier if I will be 15 years of age before the Regional? No. To participate in HCS Online Events in the ANZ region you must be 15 years of age.
Is there a limit to the number of teams eligible to compete in this tournament? Yes. The 4v4 Open Bracket portion of this tournament is limited to 32 teams.

How do I earn travel coverage to the Regional? There are Online Qualifiers taking place prior to the ANZ Regional at DreamHack Melbourne. You can grab your team and sign up to compete in these Qualifiers over on FACEIT.

Travel coverage includes economy flights and accommodation from any state or territory capital in Australia and New Zealand, along with DreamHack Festival tickets, for a team of four (4) players and one (1) coach. This will be organized when the ESL Halo team gets in touch following the Qualifier.
If I qualify via an Online Qualifier do I still need to buy a DreamHack Festival ticket? No, along with flights & accommodation you will also be granted DreamHack Festival tickets along with a Team Pass, all free of charge as part of qualifying.
What happens if I buy a Team Pass and/or DreamHack Festival ticket but qualify for pool play via an Online Qualifier? The ESL Halo team will refund your Team Pass during the process of arranging your travel to DreamHack Melbourne. They can also support in refunding or transferring your DreamHack Festival ticket.
Can I refund my Team Pass? If you need to refund your Team Pass you may do so up until 11:59pm AEST on Sunday, August 28th, 2022. Please email halo@eslgaming.com with the subject “Team Pass Refund” and the team will process your refund. Refund requests after the cutoff date and time will not be possible.
What equipment will we use at the event? During the Open Bracket Xbox Series X consoles will be used.

During Pool Play, Championship Bracket & Stage Matches PCs will be used.

Monitors are gaming-spec monitors with high refresh and low latency.

Monitors are gaming-spec monitors of no less than 144hz and 24in in size.

At all times you will need to use your own peripherals.
