Halo 3: ODST turns fifteen, the new One Shot Slayer mode has arrived in Halo Infinite, and the ultimate Halo event of the year—the Halo World Championship—is just nine days away.

Let’s get you briefed on all the action...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HALO 3: ODST!

This week, if you can believe it, Halo 3: ODST turned fifteen years old!

On September 22, 2009, we assumed the role of the Rookie and dropped feet-first into hell alongside our fellow squadmates of Alpha-Nine: Veronica Dare, Edward Buck, Taylor “Dutch” Miles, Kojo “Romeo” Agu, and Michael Crespo.

Set during the events of Halo 2, the Prophet of Regret initiated a slipspace jump inside New Mombasa and scattered our squad throughout the Covenant-occupied city.

Our objective to regroup led us to discover an even greater objective that would prove to be pivotal in the war. A Huragok, a living alien supercomputer, had merged with the city’s AI and contained data on what the Covenant was looking for on Earth.

Of course, that was just the beginning of the Halo 3: ODST experience. Countless hours were spent playing Firefight, Halo’s take on a wave-based horde mode, and the action continued in Halo 3: Mythic—the additional disc which contained the complete Halo 3 multiplayer experience along with the second part of the Mythic Map Pack, featuring Longshore, Heretic, and Citadel. (On top of that, incidentally, Halo 3 turns seventeen today as well. Happy birthday, Halo 3!)

To mark the occasion, check out the celebration video we released, and be sure to give our latest Waypoint Chronicle a read (or listen)—Halo: Venezian Sonata.

This new story follows Veronica Dare as she conducts a solo reconnaissance mission on the independent colony Venezia to learn about a new threat that is taking shape.

HALO INFINITE

ONE SHOT SLAYER

There’s good news and bad news, Spartan. The bad news: you’ve got one bullet. The good news?

You’ve got one bullet.

3 Halo Infinite multiplayer Spartans holding Manglers

One Shot Slayer is live in Halo Infinite, a new mode that... well, does exactly what it says on the tin.

Equipped with your trusty Mangler, but with only one round in the chamber, you will have to rely on precision to make your shot count. Hit your mark on an enemy player and you’ll be refunded your bullet and live to have another fight. If you miss, you’ll want to get out of dodge and attempt to get up close and personal to land a melee on a player, stealing their round.

Jump into matchmaking today to try it out as you wrap up your Operation Pass to acquire that sweet Emissary armor!

This mission remains a fan-favorite, beginning with a stealthy advance at long range against entrenched Covenant forces atop New Mombasa’s skyline, culminating in an epic rooftop standoff where you’re given an assortment of heavy weapons to fend off Banshees, Phantoms, and waves of enemies looking to ruin your day.
