ICONIC MODES

Between classically evolved combat, tactical experiences, and a few Oddballs, Halo Infinite Multiplayer has something for every Spartan. Find the iconic modes listed below—and many others—in matchmaking, or by filtering for Halo Studios modes in the Content Browser.

SLAYER

The essential elimination mode. Slay the enemy team to earn points toward conquest. Slayer can be played in numerous staple variants:

  • Slayer: The iconic free-for-all (FFA) mode. Slay to survive.
  • Team Slayer: Teams of four coordinate to bring the pain.
  • Fiesta Slayer: Teams spawn with random starting weapons.
  • Super Fiesta Slayer:Teams spawn with random power weapons and variants.
  • Tactical Slayer: Team-based tactics with no shields and no Motion Tracker.
  • Team Snipers: Teams use scoped precision weapons on long-range maps.

In Halo Infinite, you can slay pretty much anywhere you play. Find Slayer in the Quick Play, Big Team Battle, Rumble Pit, Arena Social, and Team Doubles playlists.

CAPTURE THE FLAG

You know the music. Time to dance. Roll out with your crew, pick off the defenders, and retrieve the flag to score! Capture the Flag (CTF) is available in Multi-Flag and Neutral Flag modes.

KING OF THE HILL

Hail to the king, baby! The classic capture-the-zone tactical mode returns in multiple King of the Hill (KOTH) variants. Work together to seize control of active hills, and deny entry to anyone who would challenge your dominion.

ODDBALL

The iconic skull-bashing mode returns. In Oddball, teams must fight for control of a flaming skull called the Oddball, earning points for every second it remains in a teammate’s possession. Hold on to the heinous head for as long as you can!

ASSAULT

Some demolitions require a personal touch. Bomb the enemy base to score in One Bomb, Neutral Bomb, and Multi-Bomb variants of the strategic Assault mode.

  • One Bomb: Teams trade Offensive and Defensive postures every round. The Offense team must bomb to the base. Defenders try not to get blown up.
  • Neutral Bomb: The bomb belongs to no one—until you claim it. Secure it by any means necessary and drop a megaton payload on the enemy base.
  • Multi-Bomb: Both teams have a base, and both teams have a bomb. Despite all your similarities, your differences remain irreconcilable. Play Multi-Bomb Assault in the BTB playlist.

Assault can be played in the Quick Play, Squad Battle, and Big Team Battle playlists.

INVASION

The enemy is at the gates. Thwart their advances, or relinquish sacred ground.

In the 8v8 Invasion mode, the Offense team assails the entrenched position of the Defenders in hopes of completing objectives and forcing their foes back. Rounds are split into three phases, each with a unique objective, where achievement is measured in new ground gained, a new goal, and upgraded loadouts for all teams.

If the Defenders can prevent the invaders from achieving their ambitions, the round ends and the teams switch sides. Play Invasion in the Squad Battle playlist.

GRIFBALL

Return to the original gravity-wrecking gridiron in new, amped-up Grifball modes. With full-contact equipment, third-person views, and ten new arenas to smatter with your opponents’ bits, you’ve never seen Grifball like this.

Play Grifball in both Classic and Thruster-equipped Octane modes, each with third-person (3P) variants for a wider look at the impending carnage. Lob, launch, and conquer in the Arena Social playlist!

HUSKY RAID

Strategy, meet chaos. Husky Raid arenas are typically designed around a narrow corridor, where teams must use whatever weapons fate has granted them to muscle open a path to their team’s objective.

Husky Raid is a linear CTF mode featuring random weaponry and limited cover. Seize the flag, sideline the opposition, and return home to score. With nowhere to go but forward, you’ll have to adapt your methods on the fly—or suffer the consequences.

The Husky Assault mode variant combines the do-or-die rush of Husky Raid with the tactical objectives of Assault. Weapons are random, options are few, and you’ve got to wrestle the Bomb from the enemy’s clutches by any means necessary.

Get moving, because things are about to get sweaty!

INFECTION

One by one, your comrades succumb to the malevolent influence of a Banished AI. As the Infected whittle down your numbers, you’ll have to work together to thin the herd long enough to survive the round.

EXTRACTION

Secure the site, deploy the device, and live to reminisce about it. In this strategic mode, teams must arm and defend the active Extraction Site to score. Sites change position as time elapses, so you’ll need to rally and adapt to win.

Play Extraction in the Big Team Battle playlist.

STRONGHOLDS

In Strongholds, two teams vie for control of three available Capture Zones. To earn points toward victory, your team must secure and hold two zones at once, earning one point per second of unopposed control.

Enemies may contest a held Capture Zone by entering it, and return it to a neutral, capturable state by eliminating or ousting the defenders. Capture, hold, and endure.
