Over ten years ago, the Master Chief awakened from cryo sleep as the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn approached a mysterious shield world known as Requiem.



Within this hollow sphere was an ancient Forerunner warrior—the Didact. Imprisoned a hundred millennia ago by his wife after being driven to madness, he emerged to continue his campaign against the humans that he saw as unworthy of the Mantle, the responsibility of guardianship over life in the galaxy.



Seeking to imprison humanity as his army of machine thralls, the Didact was defeated by the Master Chief and Cortana as he led an attack on Earth, casting him into slipspace. A further confrontation on Gamma Halo would see the Didact’s physical body disintegrated by the destruction of his Composer devices, sending the scatterings of his consciousness into the Domain.



It is here that <a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Halo-Epitaph/Kelly-Gay/Halo/9781668017531">Halo: Epitaph, the next novel from acclaimed author Kelly Gay</a>, begins. Here’s the official description of what is to come:

Thus begins the Didact’s great journey—the final fate of one of the galaxy’s most enigmatic and pivotal figures.

We are thrilled to reveal the cover art of Halo: Epitaph, beautifully illustrated by Chris McGrath, depicting the Didact in a vast desert within the Domain, where fans of Halo 3 may recognize a certain tower in the background.



Published by Gallery Books and our friends over at Simon & Schuster, Halo: Epitaph is currently scheduled for release in early 2024.

Forget those adjustments to your A2 scope, there’s a station to defend. Arrival is a map that has been spiritually and aesthetically based on Halo 2’s Cairo Station—it even has an antimatter charge!

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Halo game in possession of a multiplayer must be in want of a Forerunner-themed map in a box canyon.



With two opposing bases that have been based (heh!) on the barrier towers from Halo 3’s classic mission The Covenant, and featuring a downed Scarab that is being reclaimed by nature, you’d have to be pretty insolent to not try this out with up to 24 of your friends!

Scrubulba has been working on <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/halo-infinite/ugc/maps/fd12f5af-bce1-411c-a537-b250004e0f3c" target="_blank">recreating the hangar bay from the Halo 2 missions The Arbiter and The Oracle</a>, where you fight Sesa ‘Refumee—leader of the heretics on the Threshold Gas Mine—as he tries to escape in a Seraph fighter. Scrubulba has given us a breakdown of cost-effective lighting techniques he used, which could be useful for your own maps.

In September of 2021, 343 Industries launched the official Halo Waypoint app for iOS and Android platforms which have served as native mobile companions offering the same features and content as the Halo Waypoint website. Over time, we’ve seen usage patterns shift away from the apps while the mobile version of halowaypoint.com continues to capture the vast majority of site engagement.



As we look to the future, our focus is on the products and experiences that are most impactful and beneficial to our players and community.  To that end, we have made the decision to cease support for the Halo Waypoint iOS and Android apps and officially sunset them on approximately June 7, 2023.



Going forward, all the same content and features will continue to live and grow on halowaypoint.com. The Halo Waypoint website on mobile and desktop will remain the home for Halo game service records, file shares, leaderboards, franchise news, HCS, code redemption, and more.

In this series, we spotlight and interview individual members of the Halo community about the cool stuff they do, their personal history with the Halo franchise and universe, and more.

Today, we’re joined by Moto Streams to learn about her history with Halo over the years and how she cultivated one of the most wholesome streaming communities out there.

Welcome to the Community Corner, Moto! Thank you very much for joining us. Go ahead and introduce yourself—who are you, what do you do in the community, and where can we find you?



I am a gaming content creator with a focus on Halo, FPS titles, and survival games. I just love games as a whole, so I have quite a bit of variety, but my hook is always Halo. <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/Moto">I stream on Twitch</a> and I’m also on <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@motostreams">TikTok</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@MotoStreams">YouTube</a>, where I mostly do Xbox-related news and tips videos.



Tell us your Halo origin story. How did you get started on this great journey?



The year after Halo: Combat Evolved launched, I went to a friend’s house, and he was hosting a LAN party. He had four OG Xbox consoles and four of those huge CRT TVs set up. We played split-screen Halo multiplayer all night long and into the morning.



I didn’t know it then, but that moment literally changed my life and the path that I would soon be on. Needless to say, shortly afterwards I got an Xbox of my own and the first game I bought was Halo: CE.

What’s your favorite Halo game and why? And if that’s too cruel, I’ll let you have a top three…



I think all Halo fans can agree this can be a tough question! Halo: CE will forever have a special place in my heart, and it is definitely my favorite campaign to replay. However, Halo 2 wins for my favorite multiplayer.



This is where I started getting involved with the Halo community. I co-founded a womens’ Halo 2 clan with my friend Zen (who I met in-game). We had an amazing group and some of us keep in touch all these years later. This is also where I met my wife!



Would you describe yourself as a campaign person, or are multiplayer and custom games more your thing, maybe you prefer the more creative side with Forge—or maybe it’s a mix of everything. What are some of the areas of Halo you find yourself gravitating towards?



I enjoy revisiting the campaigns randomly to just relax. However, I classify myself as sort of a super hardcore casual Halo multiplayer fan. I love Halo multiplayer so much, but I am in my upper 40s now which means I am not as good. Of course, I love to win, but I mostly just play for fun. One of my favorite modes has been Escalation, I can’t seem to get enough of it!



Tell us all about your journey as a streamer. How did you get started? What sort of things do you like covering? Did you go into it with any particular goals in mind?



Originally, I started streaming to help raise money for a charity that our clan and podcast at the time was raising money for. Then I started to get the bug for streaming. I am an incredibly shy person and streaming has helped me break out of my shell.



On the streaming side, Halo is my one franchise that I always default back to. I also love covering new games that have caught my interest. I have this strange love of zombies, so I often end up playing a lot of post-apocalyptic open world games.



When I started streaming, my main goal was to connect more with our clan and podcast listeners. Later, I had goals like getting partnered on Mixer, working with a particular brand, and to hopefully someday work with Halo in some capacity. Fast forward nine years, and my goals are to make content that I love and having fun while building and growing my community.

What are some of the things you love most about streaming? Do you have any personal highlights from over the years?



What I love most about streaming is one hundred percent my community. The Sidecar Crew is legit one of the most welcoming and friendly groups out there. They make my days fun, and without them, I wouldn’t be doing any of this.



A streaming highlight that stands out was the time I got to host one of the Halo Community Playdate streams on my channel. We played a ton of Big Team Battle in Halo 5 and had a blast. It was also a huge honor to take over the Xbox Twitch channel last year for Women’s History Month—we played Halo Infinite and had a great time.



I know that you’ve done quite a bit of podcasting as well over the years. There’s really nothing better than just chatting about games, is there?



My friend Zen, who co-founded the Halo 2 clan with me, and I branched off into podcasting for seven years. Our podcast had a couple of name changes over the years, but we landed on Adrift Gamer. The “Adrift” fit both our randomness in gaming and it’s the name of a Halo 4 map.



We were both terrified to launch that first episode. It literally took us two years to get up the courage to start. But I am fully agreed that there is nothing better than sitting down once a week with one of your best friends to chat about the latest in games, and we seemed to always end up talking about space, robots and zombies. The show came to an end in 2021. We had so many amazing moments together that I will never forget.

Do you have any advice for folks out there who might be looking to get into streaming or podcasting and are finding their feet?



My biggest piece of advice is to sit down and do a little planning and ask yourself some questions. I know this part isn’t super fun, but I promise it is worth it.



These are questions that I often come back to and ask myself:



<ul><li>What do you want to cover?</li><li>What are your passions?</li><li>What things about you or your content are unique?</li><li>Who do you want to reach?</li><li>How much time a week do you realistically have to work on this?</li><li>Who can you reach out to for help and advice?</li><li>What are your short-term and long-term goals? Be realistic and specific.</li></ul>



Content creation is a lot of work, and it can take a while to start building a community. That’s why it’s so important to focus on what you love and are passionate about. It will help fuel you when you are first starting. Also, don’t wait until everything is perfect. Just improve and add things as you go.



On the topic of advice, it really must be asked… how have you fostered such a wonderfully wholesome community over the years?



That is super kind of you to say! The reason we started that Halo 2 clan back in the day was to create a space where we felt like we belonged. That is basically what I did with my community. My plan was to foster a space that is inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

Do you have a favorite piece of Halo merch on your shelf?



Without a doubt my favorite piece of Halo merch on my shelf is the Forerunner statue. I have been a member of the Forerunner Council since 2019 where we were part of Halo Infinite’s development. That was the biggest secret that I have ever had to keep. I can’t convey how much it has meant to be a part of this group.



I just think back to that first Halo: CE LAN party. That girl had no idea where she would be two decades later.



Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!



Outside of games and content creation, the bulk of my free time is spent spoiling my two doggos. One of my favorite things in Halo: CE is when Foehammer rolls in with the Pelican Echo 419. My oldest dog was born April 2019 (419), so we named her “Echo 419 Foe Hammer.” Obviously, we call her Echo for short.



My other dog, Ember, is 9 months old. They are both Whippets and love zoomies, stealing paper towels and snoozing on the couch.

Community Corner: Moto Streams

Next Wednesday, May 10, we’ll be releasing an update to address many community-requested quality-of-life improvements, sandbox tuning updates, and bug fixes. Thank you for providing feedback online and reporting issues on <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us" target="_blank">the Halo Support site</a>—your input continues to have a direct, positive impact on the game.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MODE UPDATES</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Super Fiesta</h3>



The party is just getting started. The fan-favorite mode from Halo 5 will make its explosive return with this update as campaign’s unique weapon variants and fully upgraded Equipment enter the Arena.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Ranked King of the Hill</h3>



Based on player feedback, the Hill will now spawn-in faster at the start of the match and no longer have a “wind-up” time when a player initially enters it.



Developer Note:



To help facilitate more meaningful choices at the beginning of a King of the Hill match we decided to reduce the timer for the Initial Hill. This now requires teams to be more thoughtful in establishing their starting strategies as teams now have to decide between scavenging weapons and equipment and scoring points in the Hill. 



Based on feedback, we felt there was an opportunity to make the decision to hop in and out of a Hill more impactful. With base settings, players engaging in this behavior weren’t giving up enough as they could hop out of the hill without losing it if they returned quickly enough. This could also lead to some ambiguity around Hill ownership. This change should make the state of the Hill clearer for players.



<ul><li>The initial hill spawn has been reduced from 15 seconds to 5 seconds </li><li>The wind-up period to score has been removed</li><li>Players can score right away when stepping into the hill</li><li>This allows players to quickly score while maneuvering grenades and avoiding damage all up</li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sandbox Balance Tuning</h2>



There will also be a few updates that should help to keep the sandbox in a good state until Season 4 rolls around.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Disruptor</h3>



Overall, we wanted to reduce the complexity of this weapon—which currently Supercombines, deals damage over time (DOT), slows Spartans, chain reacts to other players, etc.—while still ensuring that it could be successful in combat. The Disruptor will have an increased rate of fire and Supercombine damage, but will no longer deal DOT and its chain reaction distance will be halved.



Developer note: 



The goal of this change was to reduce the complexity of the weapon’s behavior, focusing the utility on the Supercombine detonation and shock chaining and their ability to damage nearby players. By upping the direct damage from Supercombines and increasing the Rate of Fire (ROF), it leans the Disruptor more towards a combat pistol with a straightforward utility.



Changes: 



<ul><li>Removed Damage Over Time </li><li>Reduced chain distance from 5 World Units (wu) to 2.5 wu </li><li>Increased Supercombine damage from 60 to 70 </li><li>Increased ROF from 4.285 to 5 rounds per second </li></ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Spike Grenades</h3>



We noticed that with its current tuning, Spike Grenades were dealing high damage but not requiring as much precision as a Frag or Plasma Grenade. To address this, we’re bringing the behavior of Halo Infinite’s Spike Grenade more in line with Halo 3’s Spike Grenade by tightening the explosion cone and reducing the damage radius while increasing the number of flechettes. 



Developer note: 



The goal here was to enhance the directionality of Spikes, requiring tighter precision but better rewarding good placement. With double the flechettes, but a shorter range and tighter cone, they will cause focused, directional damage where placed. Out in the open, away from enemies, they won’t be as effective as frags. Sticking them on walls that are facing nearby enemies will inflict the highest possible damage, being lethal in one shot if a player is directly in front of (or on top of) one. 



Changes: 



<ul><li>Increased number of flechette submunitions that are released on detonation from 8 to 16 </li><li>Reduced flechette travel distance from 5 World Units (wu) to 3.5wu </li><li>Reduced Area of Effect (AOE) damage radius from 3.2 wu to 2 wu </li><li>Reduced AOE damage amount from 300 damage to 160 </li><li>Adjusted flechette bounce behavior to deviate less</li></ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Dynamo Grenades </h3>



Similar to the Spike Grenade, we wanted to make sure the Dynamo Grenade was being used more deliberately during gameplay. To do this, we’ve reduced the area of effect (AOE), reduced the chain reaction distance, and removed its movement slowdown properties while slightly increasing its damage potential. 



Developer note: 



The goal with this change is to tighten the area of effect, requiring more thoughtful placement with a higher reward for direct hits. The previous tuning would damage enemies well outside the immediate combat area, feeling overly generous and hard to escape. With higher damage per tick, but a shorter radius, Dynamos create a more potent but contained threat. Use them in corners where enemies have no escape to cause max damage, or to force enemies away from a route. 



Changes: 



<ul><li>Reduced shock Area of Effect (AOE) distance from 3.5 wu (World Units) to 2 wu </li><li>Reduced shock chain distance from 5 wu to 2 wu </li><li>Increased shock damage per burst from 18 to 21 </li><li>Removed movement stun from shock damage </li><li>Lowered arming time from 0.65 to 0.5 seconds </li><li>Reduced delay between shock damage pulses from 0.3 to 0.25 seconds </li><li>Added one additional shock damage pulse at 2.5 seconds </li></ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Shroud Screen</h3>



In Ranked Arena, the Shroud Screen will be updated to have 1 charge upon pickup.



Developer note: 



The goal of this change was to reduce the total impact Shroud Screen was having for high skilled players without changing the effectiveness of the equipment itself. With this change, players will be required to be more strategic with how they decide to use the Shroud Screen.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Forge</h2>



The May Update will bring a nice quality of life update to Forge in the form of PC screenshot uploading and numerous bug fixes. This includes improvements to the Z-fighting movement controls, Forge monitor movement speed, and more.



To improve the stability of script-heavy creations, individual script brains will be updated to have a 128 node cap. Fear not though, existing creations above that limit will still work, they will just not be able to add any additional nodes. You’ll also still be able place multiple script brains, to make sure you still have access to the full power of Halo Infinite’s scripting system.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FPS Counter on Xbox</h2>



One quality of life update that we’re excited about is the addition of an FPS Counter option on Xbox consoles. Not only does this provide great contextual information for you while playing in a match, but it’s also vital for Forgers looking to build maps that have steady performance (framerate). Allowing Forgers this extra bit of insight should help them create quality maps that feel even more smooth to slay on.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UXUI</h2>



In this update, we’re also excited to be rolling out a few highly requested improvements to our menus. Notably, we’ll be making the Customs Browser accessible from the “Custom Game” option right on the main menu. When clicking in, you’ll be able to choose between checking out what the Customs Browser has to offer and starting up your own Custom Game.



The matchmaking menu will also receive an update which will allow twice as many playlists to be visible at once—from 5 playlists to 10—before needing to scroll down. Though this change means the playlist images will be moved into each specific playlist’s details, presenting more playlist variety up front is worth it to the players. 



Last, but certainly not least, a selection of bundles from previous seasons will be able to be purchased through the customization menu. When checking out an item that was part of an eligible Bundle, players will now be presented with an option to view and purchase that Bundle from the Shop. 



Please note: previous season HCS bundles and current season bundles are not currently available for purchase.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Resolved Issues</h2>



We’ve outlined a few improvements throughout this blog, but we had several more that we wanted to call out before wrapping things up.  



Here’s a quick look at them: 



<ul><li>Various server and client stability improvements (reduced server and game crashes) </li><li>Various Theater / Observer improvements and bug fixes </li><li>Halo Infinite will no longer crash on launch when attempting to play on a PC that is below the minimum specifications. This was an unintended bug that caused the game to crash before showing the below minimum specification warning message.  <ul><li>Players can once again choose to continue past this warning message, but the expected functionality and visual experience are not guaranteed. </li><li>To learn more about PC hardware specifications, please visit our <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408731548180-PC-hardware-specs-and-drivers-for-Halo-Infinite" target="_blank">PC Hardware Specs and Drivers guide on the Halo Support site</a>. </li></ul></li><li>Addressed an issue causing Wasp “gun jamming” when playing with the Bumper Jumper control scheme </li><li>Cutscenes should no longer replay when relaunching the game </li></ul>

So… what’s behind the Live Fire door?



When Season 3 kicked off in March, we saw Spartan Dinh awaken after having his memories invaded by the Banished AI Iratus. We met with Dinh as he handed over his well-worn M392 Bandit, telling us to get good with the weapon and then come and find him. Meanwhile, during a live fire exercise, an errant grenade detonated by a door and revealed the symbol of the Office of Naval Intelligence…

How does it work?



Upon completion of each qualifying event the player will receive a reward code via their Halo Waypoint Profile.



When you complete each event, simply visit Halo Waypoint online or via mobile and sign into your account to trigger your reward. The reward code will be delivered to you via Waypoint notifications.



Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the code to be delivered after completion of an event.



Once you receive the reward code, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://gear.xbox.com/pages/halo" target="_blank">visit the Halo Gear Shop</a> and hop to the respective Pin product page to proceed with your purchase before entering your code.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">HOW TO VIEW CINEMATICS</h2>



Two new cinematics are available with the Site Unseen event. The first is available from the start, and the second is unlocked by completing the Event Pass.



You can view the Site Unseen cinematics by pressing Y from the main menu to open up the screen that shows your Battle Pass, Story Event, and Challenges.

As mentioned in yesterday’s <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Community Update (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/site-seeing" target="_blank">Community Update</a>, we’ve officially rolled out a new process to ensure your hard work can be seen by 343 and considered for matchmaking. Thanks to the tagging system in-game, all you need to do finish your creation, attach a screenshot to it, and then use the appropriate tags when saving your map or mode.
