Season 3 is just around the corner, landing on March 7, but an additional update that should improve your experience in a few targeted areas will also be arriving this upcoming Wednesday, February 15. The updates in this patch are the direct result of player feedback online and community reported issues on the Halo Support site.  



We’ll be touching on some of the updates in this preview blog but please stay tuned for full patch notes on <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us" target="_blank">the Halo Support site</a> when it releases next week.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">UXUI </h3>



<ul><li>The Ranked CSR widget should now communicate increases and decreases in CSR more clearly </li></ul>



The Winter Update introduced some additional UXUI messaging to help communicate increases and decreases in CSR after each ranked match. However, we understand that the format did not always communicate these changes in a manner that was easy to understand. Next week’s update should address this feedback making it even easier to tell how much your CSR went up or down after each match. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sandbox </h3>



<ul><li>In the Ranked Arena playlist and HCS, each Weapon Rack will now be set to a “Red Rack” state after the weapon is picked up. This means once a weapon is picked up, the Weapon Rack won’t spawn another weapon until the original has despawned. </li></ul>



Sandbox Team Dev Note: We’ve seen the feedback around there being too much power on the map in Ranked Arena, with many players calling out the respawn rate and ammo count on weapons. To help address this, we’ll be updating all Weapon Racks in Ranked Arena to provide only one weapon at a time. We expect this to help reduce the overall power and ensure a more competitive environment. As for ammo reductions on the weapons themselves in Ranked, ranked players should expect those to come for the Heatwave, Stalker Rifle, CQS48 Bulldog, and Shock Rifle with the launch of Season 3.

<ul><li>Frag Grenade damage radius will be slightly reduced  </li></ul>



The specific tuning changes are: 



<ul><li>Radius reduction from 2.7wu to 2.5wu (world units)</li></ul>



Sandbox Team Dev Note: After listening to community input and doing in-house tuning, we’re happy to be rolling out a change that slightly reduces the damage radius on Frag Grenades. The update should help reward skilled Frag Grenade placement while also addressing the concerns around grenade spam effectiveness in gameplay. 



<ul><li>Drop Weapon mechanic will now have the same speed as normal weapon switching </li></ul>



Sandbox Team Dev Note: The Drop Weapon meta was becoming very prominent in competitive play, to the point where nearly every top player was doing it. Many players shared their concerns about it becoming too prominent at the highest level of competition, so we’ve made sure the weapon ready up time after a dropped weapon matches the speed of swapping between weapons normally.

<ul><li>S7 Sniper will have its error angle reduced when no-scoping </li></ul>



The specific tuning changes are: 



<ul><li>Error angle max reduced by 30% </li><li>Error angle minimum reduced by 55% </li><li>Time to reset bloom reduced by 20%  </li></ul>



Sandbox Team Dev Note: Halo Infinite’s S7 Sniper no-scope error angle properties were in line with previous Halo titles, but we’ve seen the requests to make it even more accurate when firing from the hip. When this update lands next week, the sharpshooters out there should notice some improvements when going for kills in which no scope was involved.  



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bug Fixes </h3>



<ul><li>Various client and server stability improvements </li><li>Improvements to reduce the gun jamming on semi-automatic weapons </li><li>Improvements to reduce a visual glitch that made semi-automatic weapons appear as if they were double-firing from a third-person point of view. </li></ul>

Long before the Halo Infinite Forge Beta launched with the Winter Update back in November, we knew we were going to have our collective minds blown by the things the community would make and share when we handed over the tools of map and mode creation. Three months later, we are still seeing that creativity pushed to new heights every week! 



We delivered the Custom Games Browser to Halo Infinite ahead of schedule in December, giving you the ability to make every night a custom games night with friends and foes you just haven’t gotten acquainted with yet. 



And now, on the cusp of Season 3, we’re answering the highly requested call to bring community-made Forge maps to their own unique matchmaking playlist.

A map we previously showed off in <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/forge-features-3" target="_blank">our third issue of Forge Features</a>, Absolution has some familiar aspects of a few different maps—from Halo 2’s Sanctuary to Halo 3’s Guardian, with that weathered, stone-based Forerunner aesthetic that defined the look of Delta Halo.

Once upon a time, there were to be seven members of Noble Team—the seven samurai, the magnificent seven… but two of them didn’t make it into Halo: Reach.



Thom-A293 perished in the aforementioned game’s live-action
“Deliver Hope” trailer, blowing up a Covenant vessel from the inside with a
tactical nuke. Rosenda-A344 remained in obscure background fiction, cited as a
potential replacement on the team for Emile-A239.



And now, these two Spartans return in the Noble Intention Event for Halo Infinite, along with additional Halo: Reach-themed cosmetics for your MARK V [B] Armor Core in a free 10-tier Event Pass to bring the Winter Update to a close. Running from February 7 through February 21, this limited event rewards you for playing however you want—simply complete Challenges and you’ll progress the Event Pass!

The year is 2005. It’s the height of summer and the Maptacular Pack has just released for Halo 2!



Backwash was made to resemble the final area of the campaign mission 343 Guilty Spark from Halo: Combat Evolved, with additional cool details like 2401 Penitent Tangent flying around. It was famously the only map to be removed from matchmaking during the heyday of Halo 2, as the fog which compromises the player’s visibility couldn’t be loaded properly.



I used to enjoy playing “cat-and-mouse”-type custom games on Backwash where players had active camouflage and snipers. Now I can relive that thanks to this very loyal remake!

A remake of Foundation from Halo 2, but with at least six-hundred times the detail to make it feel like a genuinely lived-in courtyard.



Thankfully, you don’t need to go through any convoluted steps to unlock this one!

I love interactive map elements. Even when it’s something as simple as being able to extend a bridge or open a gate, or activate a shield somewhere… being able to subtly alter the way a map plays always makes me love it more.



On Apostate, one of the central features of the top part of the map is its light bridge. Shoot the shock cores on either side of the map and you’ll disable it, sending any Spartans caught on the bridge plunging to the depths below, leaving you to reactivate the bridge from a nearby terminal.



Sometimes true brilliance is found in the simplest ideas, and that’s exactly what you get with Apostate!

While not a direct recreation of any particular space, Vagabond evokes the neon-lit cityscapes seen throughout the series. There are elements of Plaza, Streets, and other urban maps that give a grounding sense of familiarity to this city of dreams.

I’m a big fan of seeing how creatively folks can marry the visual simplicity of Halo: Combat Evolved’s Forerunner aesthetics with some of the design sensibilities introduced in Halo 4. In terms of appearance, that’s exactly what you get with Nemesis, which also boasts an incredible level of detail in its out-of-map environments—sentinels fly into distant cavernous openings, birds pass overhead…



Getting caught unawares because you’ve found yourself staring at every little thing on this map is definitely a danger!

2023 is here, which means we’re back—well fed and rested—to say goodbye to those post-holiday, mid-January blues and kick off a new year of Halo Infinite with the Joint Fire Event!

The Joint Fire Event runs from January 17-31 and brings a free 10-tier Event Pass featuring Halo: Reach-themed rewards.



Joint Fire is all about the JFO-class Mjolnir (for your Mark V [B] Armor Core), which many of you will no doubt remember from Halo: Reach, which you’ll be assembling by completing Event Challenges in the Joint Ops playlist.



You’ve had the opportunity to get to grips with Covert One Flag when it launched with the Winter Update, but for those who may need a tactical briefing on this asymmetrical mode…



Covert One Flag is 4v4 CTF with one flag up for grabs over multiple rounds. Attackers have unlimited active camouflage while defenders have unlimited threat sensors, with plenty of cat ‘n’ mouse “spies versus mercenaries” carnage to ensue.

Winter Contingency II Press Kit

Well folks, it’s that time of year again! Craig’s debut Holiday album has released, featuring all-new hits for the Banished on Zeta Halo, such as “Hot Rod Slay”, “O Come, O Come, Escharum”, and—oh, hang on, sorry this is the wrong intro… ah, there it is.



The Winter Contingency event has returned to Halo Infinite!

Winter Contingency II runs from December 20 through January 3, bringing a free 10-tier Event Pass containing new Holiday-themed cosmetics.



For the Event Pass this year, you can progress it simply by completing Challenges, which means that you can complete the entire Event Pass at any point during the time in which the Winter Contingency II event is running. This comes as the result of community feedback from last year’s event, so we hope that this change gives players more agency to earn this free content at their own pace.

Mausoleum is a map that is inspired by and takes elements of The Pit from Halo 3, something that you can see in the screenshot above, and reforges them into something altogether new.



I love the Delta Halo-inspired aesthetic, the angular simplicity and symmetry, the creative use of decals—all of which come together to make this map feel like a true, living location as well as a stellar multiplayer map for some good ol’ fashioned Slayer action!

Absolution has some familiar aspects of a few different maps. You might find yourself thinking of Guardian from Halo 3 at times, Sanctuary from Halo 2 at others, and you’ll notice that this is also very aesthetically reminiscent of the ancient structures seen on Delta Halo. There really is just something about those weathered stone structures…



This is a fantastic 4v4 map which supports Slayer, CTF, and King of the Hill. Hop in and give it a go with some friends!

The culmination of these ancient and weathered stone-based structures naturally brings us to a remake of this iconic favorite.



It’s Sandtrap as you know and love it! Well, if you want to get technical, it’s actually Sand Tarp—the variant of the map in Halo 3 without Elephants.



I hear this version of the map is so loyal to the original, JRGodoy has ensured exactly the same number of grains of sand are present on this remade version. I leave the task of confirming the veracity of that statement (which I definitely didn’t just make up) to you.

Betrayal might be one of my favorite maps I’ve seen thus far. If you’re a fan of the Forerunner aesthetics of Halo: Combat Evolved, that fascinating mix of alien materials which evoke stone and metal, you’re going to have a great time just walking around this incredible interior space.



No expense has been spared in paying close attention to detail, and you might well imagine that this could have been a real Forerunner space in the campaign.
